Replacing the pollen filter.

Hi guys,

Any of you guys changed a pollen filter recently, am about to get the car serviced and want to know whether to pay to get it done or to do it myself.

Is the pollen filter easy to replace?

Anyone know of any instructions about how to change it?

Jon

Re: Replacing the pollen filter.

Hi Jon,

I've replaced my microfilter following these instructions; they cover everything: http://bmwe34m5.com/howto/microfilter_install.pdf. I don't do much work on the car but did not find it difficult - took about 1 hour the first time, as stated.
However, that was on a LHD car. I don't know whether you reach the pollen filter behind the panels to the left of your clutch pedal on a RHD car, and if it's harder to change.
Note that you need a torx screwdriver.

Pollen filter replacement should be included in an Inspection 2 though.

Good luck!
Patrick

Re: Replacing the pollen filter.

I've just done mine (RHD) and found the filter has to split into two so it will slide out and clear the steering column. Couldn't locate a pattern replacement (yet), everyone supplied the one piece filter (this must be for the LHD). If anyone knows where to get a pattern replacement, please post details else its £26 from a dealer.

Yes. It used to be on a website, and I just found out it's still available in this zipfile http://BMWE34M5.com/howto/microfilter_install.zip Download it and extract all files to one directory. Then print the HTML.
