Supercharging

Im looking into this right now,

Is there any additional help on this? is there a kit out there already?

Engine management issues are not a problem for me as I have access to some very clever AlphaN type systems which are very very cheap and very easy to install.

I really need to get 400bhp and forced induction is the only way to get it.

there was a post a few months ago from a US guy who had a superchargrer kit on his 3,8, and was trying to sell the complete kit on this board.

Re: Supercharging

Would you like a one-of-a-kind, custom supercharger for your E34M5

This is the link - useful to know I think if you are considering putting a blower on.

Re: Supercharging

LOL....

I just read through a whole lot of Supercharger threads and followed the story of the guy who did in Canada (Avus Blue car).

My god was that alot of hassle! bit too much work for me to undertake to be honest with custom brackets, offset washers, crank pulleys bla bla bla!

Turbo Charging.....mmmmm........whos going to make a manifold that actually fits. Then find adapters and make custom downpipes, deal with excess heat in the engine bay, bla bla bla bla.......headache......and then watch it all fall apart after 5000 miles because the engine cant take it.

Screw that.....just buy a faster car!

Will stick with the M5 as it is, just getting annoyed at being matched by stupid little mk2 Golfs.

Maybe I will go the other way......lose some weight instead. Change exhaust to stainless steel - save 50kg alone there!

Throw away seats and replace with carbon firbe ones........save another 50-100kg

Throw away AC as its useless in this country........save many many 10's of KG's

Use aluminium parts in suspension - save a few KG's

Use Carbon Fibre or other composite bonnet - lots of KG's

Go to gym and lose 10kg, shave head and rest of body of all trace elements of hair, take a dump before going out......every bit helps.

Remove spare wheel but make sure I have AA cover.

I could save around 200kg this way.....then I will go hunt that stupid Golf again!

This is not realistic.. the OEM exhaust is heavy, yes, but not that much.. it weighs about 30kg total i would guess, i did not weigh it, but i have had it on and of several times..

Manual front seats are 26kg each, the rears with centreconsole is about 20 total, one carbon seat is about 4-5kg

200kg is very easy..
Our cars can go down to around 1350kg without problems..
a bit lower with carbon doors, no sls, plexi windows, race battery, etc..
Mine is 1330kg now

Trivia for geeks:
What is the combined weight of all OEM wire-looms in our cars?

And for the über-geeks:
What is the weight of only the nessesary wires?

(will post answer tomorrow )

Phil.
It is too much to list..
Basically i just removed everything that does not have to be there, and replaced some parts with lighter alternatives. To be honest it has turned out being alot more work than i had imagined when i started nearly two years ago,
but there have been many nice evenings in the garage
The "To Do list" is getting smaller.. "all" i still need, is to install a custom built diff & prop-shaft, the Getrag 265/CR gearbox with shortshifter, and build and install the turbo S38B38 (it is member Jahangeer's blown engine that is getting a new life). Then there is the brake-system to replace, new paintjob,
aerodynamics to improve, different versions of exhaust-systems to have built, and i still need to do some work on the suspension also.. ok ok, i think i better get to it, if i want to drive it next year
