Exporting an M5 from the EU to USA
Does anyone have experience of exporting an M5 from the EU to US?
I am a UK citizen and will be taking up a job in the USA shortly. I am considering buying a LHD M5 from Germany, registering it initially in the UK, and then exporting to the USA.
Will I have to pay import duty into the USA, and if so how much?
If anybody has experience of this or can point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

There is one person on this board (Pat Philpot) who has imported several cars from Europe. He uses a shop in Florida to federalize the cars once they arrive. I believe Pat has a '90 M5, an '85 M6, and an Alpina BiTurbo, among others.

Of course, there are many other shops to perform the DOT/EPA modifications. This tends to be a timely and costly process ($5-10K). Look Pat up, I'm sure his e-mail addy is somewhere here on the board.
