Nurmburgring suspension and brakes

I have a 1994 M5. It has a 5 speed manual transmission and I'm told it has the NBRing suspension and brakes, however I get the impression that only the 6 speed vehicles had this fitted as standard. The local BMW garage is currently checking. Their impression was that the NBRing suspension and brakes were colour coded yellow in later editions?? Can anybody help or suggest how I might establish what the car has or has not?

To see if you have the Neurbring Suspension package, a simple test is to look at the dash and there should be a switch right next to the fog light switch. It is an illuminated switch, with two settings. If you have the switch (Which manually adjusts the suspension damping.)You have the Neurbring package. This was an option on all 3.8L M5's and was fitted as standart equipment on 1995 Model M5's

However, I believe that there is alot of confusion over the apparent upgraded brakes. The Suspension package does not include any brake upgrade. The only time the brakes changed was for the 1995 model year when the floating disc'c were put into production. They were not painted yellow from factory, just standard aluminum color os steel, what ever they are made of.

With the 95 models, when the Nurburgring (sp?) suspension was fitted as standard, do you still have a switch to decide whether to use it or use the standard suspension? Also, what differences does it make to the car's suspension & handling?

The Neurburgring suspension is a manual switch of the EDC (Electronic Damping Control) The system will automatically adjust the damper settings if needed, as to minimise body roll and dive and squat. It's a really cool system, but along with the manual switch,(Which will be overridden if you suddenly swerve or something) you have a 1mm thicker rear anti roll bar, and a 9 inch wide rear wheel on 255 wide tires, w/o you have an 8 inch wheel in back with I believe 235, and 245 in 1995. I think thats about it!

Ryan, Thanks very much for your help. The car does indeed have the rocker switch which illuminates when switched into "sport" mode. Glad that's been cleared up as both the local BMW dealer and another supposed M5 expert were struggling to figure out whether the car had the NBR package. Interesting comments about the brakes. I had previously been under the impression that the NBR package featured uprated suspension and brakes! Thanks again for your help

Glad to help! I think there are allot of people that think the Neurburgring suspension included bigger brakes. This is not true, all M5's all had the same killer brakes. Although they were improved and made larger with the 1995 model year.

Are these the "rotor" disk brakes I've seen people discussing in this BB? If so do you know if it's worth updating the brakes in my 1994 M5? Indeed is this even possible??
