Hi!!
Well, the tensioner itself doesn`t make any sound, but it is the timing chain that starts to rattle, especially at startup from cold. Rattling noise from the front end off the engine/"noisy engine"

Can`t describe it any better, somebody else give a try?

Very Good Article Raymond.
Excellent technical content & well written.

I did not know this article existed but had received other information about 2 yrs ago on the tensioner used on the E36 M3 EVO. I had already replaced the std tensioner a couple of years before this. I have the Evo M3 Tensioner fitted to mine just a few weeks ago as an oil leak using the std tensioner had developed.

Hi all!
Well, I have received the first price estimate for the work and parts..
Parts (Timing chain, guides,tensioner,sprockets, top gasket, top bolts etc ) 12500NOK= appr. 1500eur
Two days labour 10000NOK =1200eur
Plus the price for the labour for overhauling the top ~1000 eur

Total cost est. 30000-32000NOK = 3500+ eur

I`ve got the downpayment blues.......

Been out and bought M3 3.2 tensioner today. £62 from BMW apparently its been modified from original will post as soon as fitted to let everybody know how I got on! Thanks to Raymond for pointing the idea out!
