Speed limiter

Hi could anyone tell me how to go about lifting the 155mph limit currently on my 1990 3.6?

Re: Speed limiter

Smiler49, where in Liverpool are you, I'm based in Hunts Cross by the airport.

There are two ways to remove the limiter depending on the car...
1) re-chip it
2) remove throttle retardation cable (which connects to the throttle bodies next to the throttle cable).

Re: Speed limiter

Are you sure your motor has the Speed limiter? silly question....... have you been upto 155mph to see if it works?

My 1992 3.8 doesn't have one? Although previous owners may have removed it?

I thought the cable was only on the 3.8L cars?

I believe so, I think the 3.6 was limited by the ECU - hence option 1

Re: Speed limiter

I believe i've read somewhere that you can overcome the speed limiter on the 3.6 by holding the cruise switch to 'accel' which will take you to 165mph ......

Mind you , I don't know anyone who would be brave enough to set the cruise at 155 !

Hi I'm in Aintree.Near the racecourse. Where's the best place to look for a chip?
My mate owns Hickey's Snooker club that's near you.

It sits happy at 155 but that's the limit.
