Dealer ordered parts got stopped by BMW, requesting me all the documents showing this is a legally converted Euro in USA market.

I had ordered euro parts before and never had this happened.

Has anyone ran into this problem before?

Thanks,
Karl

it's been happening most of 2015. If you have your registration and your drivers license and the parts you are ordering match the vin on your reg, and you dealer follows the correct protocol with forms, requests etc, you'll get your parts.

unless it's a euro catalyst, euro lights, dme, etc, etc. I posted a bmw internal memo back in January or so with what they simply will not send to the US (generally emissions and DOT stuff) and the form the dealer needs to fill out.

I've not needed any Euro parts, but I'd think that it might be worth trying Schmiedmann in Denmark? They have full page ads in every Roundel magazine, and might well be willing to ship genuine BMW parts.......Just a thought.

Gents,

My frustration is beyond normal regarding this Nonsense!

BMW North America is a private owned company.
This Euro parts in US is all one B U L L S H I T
created by BMW NA.

Mike-Ottati dont be naive regarding the regulation of EPA DOT....

My friend has 1995 Euro 3.8 Regystered in CALIFORNIA!
"Pacific BMW" came and took pictures from the car, and Vin#
Because I wanted to order a 3.8 Crank and 6 speed tranny.

After 3 years I am still waiting a call from BMW to say your parts arrived.........

How come for the longest time I was able to order 3.8 cam gears ?
All of sudden after all these years now its NLA ?,
How come ?, were is the coming from, who makes this decisions and Controls that ?????
BMW AG does not want to make money from selling Parts ?!
hahahahhahahahahaha....

When I was at the Monterey "Legend of the Auto Bahn"
A german guy name Klaus was sent from BMW AG to
market Euro Program Parts.
They even made a special Broshure regarding that.
After 10mins conversation he understood I was not a regular Joe customer.
and with little secret he mentioned that this is not up to BMW AG to import Euro Parts in US its up to BMW NA

Hmmmm how come for the longest period of time
I was able to order M635 M-Tech side skirts
all of a sudden several month back I order a set,
and Manny called back and told be its NLA !!??
Who made this part to be blocked !?
In BMW AG parts ware house we see 10sets available !,
Are you telling me that BMW does not want to make money ?!

How come I was able to order E34 M5 6 speed transmission back in 2012 ??? and I close friend had this ordered and got it.

BMW NA is simply making this decision because lack of Space.
They DO WANT to Eliminate the old parts space.
They WANT TO Sell only parts for newer cars all they care is $$$$ !!!
And creating this nonsense because they make more money selling parts and Electrical Water pumps for the newer cars....

Mercedes-Benz is owned by Mercedes AG......
How come I am able to order Euro Lights for W126 !
How come I am able to order a M119 6.0 Short Block !

You walk as a Regular customer to "Mercedes Benz Classic Center" in Irvine California and you can order any EUROPEAN Mercedes Model Part !
And Guess What !!! NO ONE IS ASKING YOU FOR SHOW ME CURRENT CALIFORNIA REGISTRATION AND A PROVE YOU OWN EUROPEAN VEHICLE.

None of these items from Mercedes above are DOT EPA approved and I am able to order.

BMW Classic is a small rain drop compare to Atlantic Ocean size Mercedes-Classic

Now I have to order what ever I need from someone from Europe.

I bought my E28 M5 with the euro bumper conversion already completed. A small interaction with a deer caused me to order about $2500 in euro specific front end parts. 6 months later I go back in to order a little plastic grommet on the side of the front bumper as the one I was replacing was a tad worn. bmwna blocked the importation of my $1.83 plastic grommet. I still cannot figure out how this little plastic piece is a safety concern.

This is a post repair pic, luckily I was able to use the grommet and the bumper fits nicely.

I have been dealt with it for more than 3 years.
I have a bud with a Euro 95, M5 and we could not get any parts for his car - none - zipo!!
He registered his Euro M5 with BMW/NA, filled out the Non-US Spec Parts Request and even wrote a letter to the VP and nothing - no parts after 6 months.
Back in 2013 I talked to a BMW executive at OctoberFest specifically about the Euro parts ordering problem and he said that DOT/EPA was on to all the Euro only parts entering the US and told BMW/NA to shut it down.
Apparently, I was not the only one upgrading their US BMW's from the Euro parts bins.
However, I was able to get a stash of Euro rotor shortly after that but other parts like pads were un-obtainium
In 2014, I finally decided to do a workaround - so emailed Schmiedmann in Denmark. 6-speed arrived at SFO a week later.
Yep, the extra cost (customs, broker, no discount) was a couple $k more than my US dealer discount but at least I got it.

When you talk to BMW Classic they make it sound like those days are gone, but I will believe it when I can get the Euro parts again and I have yet to try for a while.

Another person who was fooled with this BS coming from BMW NA :laugh

Can you please explain what the Euro Side skirts for E24 has to do with EPA or DOT ?
How come I was able to order them for the last 10years and all of sudden its Blocked several months back ?
How about Clips and Plastic grommets are not DOT approved.... LOL

Rod, its all BS coming from NJ !!!

I'm in the same boat as you guys and already from some years back when thi stupid rule came out to block all euro model parts into BMW USA.

Most of the BMW's down here are basically, GERMAN specs, so basically when I need a specific euro part (not commonly found in USA) I could get a quote and order it, but not so long ago I ketp getting the same reply from the guy who always sell me BMW parts, that were blocked and he tried to do whatever possible to order with out succeed.

Another problem is that most of time when I compared the same part from USA and from some place in europe I would get a lot expensier quote over the US one, i.e. a "x" was quoted at $600 is USA and the same "x" quoted in germany at any dealer I would get arround 660-700 euro if not higher! Every single parts I quoted was like that....plus the currency and shipping costs from europe to down here results in a excess of money... it's sad truly.

I still can't think of one solid and valid argument of not just sell the damn parts requested by the customers, they don't have to have them in stock, all the euro parts can be ordered directly to BMW AG and deliver it to their US dealers as per order even if they want to have pre paid I would be all over it. God damn...my brain can't figue it out.....:crying

I really think is something up with BMW AG rather than BMW NA. Here is my theory, however I might be totally wrong:

BMW AG makes the parts, basically or mostly all in europe, specially the euro version parts specifically, so rather than send them to USA to a lower price plus the currency exchange they prefer to keep all the parts to europe/RoW customers so they have more gains when ordered from there, although if this is the scenario, that would be a for tiny nich.
