EDC III - Where are the G-sensors?
My EDC's failed and according to the diagnostics system at my local mechanic it's caused by the vertical G-sensor ar the back of the car. All the rest of stuff appears to be fine. The result is an error on the dash as soon as the car starts moving (EDC not active). I believe the diagnostics code was 40.
Apparently there's a separate EDC III Repair Manual for troubleshooting the system, but since my mechanic is no licensed dealer, he doesn't have it. Does anyone know where I can find this sensor (and the other two that are scattered around the car) to find out which one needs to be replaced? Also, could this particular sensor be an integral part of the rear shocks (and hence require complete shock replacement)?
http://rust.mine.nu/bmw/showparts.do...g=45&x=225&y=0
I would assume I'd need one of those 18's (see above link) replaced, but where are they? Better yet - can I get the EDC repair manual somewhere?
Erik

Hi,
the rear acceleration sensor is in the trunk on the rear right side. Just lift the trunkcover and you'll see the sensor. You just need a screwdriver to replace it, no further action required.
It looks like this: http://www.mission-bmw.de/homepage/t...4/image231.jpg

Great, that's the kind of pic I was looking for! You also happen to know where the other 2 acceleration sensors are?
Erik

Hi Erik,
number 2 is in the front wheel housing of the passenger side. With number 3 I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's got to be somewhere near the rear shocks in the wheel housing.

So I just look for an item only present on the right side, not on the left. Are you sure though that the one in the boot is for vertical acceleration?
By the way; are these sensors all identical so I can swap them to verify if the diagnostics code indeed reflects the change?

The sensor near the rear shocks might be on the left side, the others are definately on the right side. The one in the boot is for acceleration. I had the same problem (EDC not active) half a year ago. I swapped the sensor from the front wheel housing with the one in the boot, they indeed are identical.
But you always have to erase the error code.

Right hand side over here. Hard to image that exactly this sensor, that is inside the car and totally stationary, fails while the others under the car are still going strong. I guess I'll just have to order a new one and keep my fingers crossed that it'll indeed fix the problem. I'll keep you posted.

All sensors aren't exposed to water or anything. My sensor in the front wheelhousing died - no water, no nothing there. It just died. So it's quite possible.

Do you have a RHD? Maybe everything on the other side then.
