1995 brakes ooooh

Just had the brakes completely overhauled. The bill was astronomical
and comprised of new discs, pads all round, handbrake shoes, stainless brake lines, dot 5 racing fluid...etc... etc..

However even though the best part of a £1K has gone, the brakes are now Godlike. I didn't realise there could be such a difference. They are frighteningly good.

The only thing you do have to be careful of is to get the front disks on the correct wheel as they are directional, epecially as they are counter-intuative. The inner vanes on the disc sweep back to the direction of travel rather than scoop air moving forwards. I guess air is pulled into the centre of the hub and spun out.

Nice one mate...

I'm planning on doing something similar in a few months, think I was quoted £760 for the lot though from my dealer, will have to check but that may not have included the brake lines.

Godlike, I like it...

When I had new front discs the dealer put them on the wrong way round. Some 5k miles later, during a routine check just be the Alps meet last year, they spotted the mistake so swapped them back. They kindly told me and all seemed ok until I needed to brake from 80+ mph as between 80 & 60 the shuddering was dreadful. Anyway, they fitted new ones FOC and once again all was well.

They really do work very well bringing quite a heavy car to a stop in very short order and very fade free.

Re: 1995 brakes ooooh

Guys,
So if the discs are directional, which one is which.

I've been having a lot of vibration from the brakes which is getting progressively worse despite the discs being replaced last Inspection II. I am also wearing the inside edge off the front tyres so the car is booked in for a check up tomorrow.

I had a quick look at the discs and have ******5 on the nearside and ******6 on the offside.

Re: 1995 brakes ooooh

I don't know sorry, the dealer did all the work.

I can have a look in the morning if that helps? Roughly where on the disc are the numbers & can they be seen without removing the wheels?

Re: 1995 brakes ooooh

Kev,

The numbers can be read through the gaps in the alloys. The Part No.s are stamped in adjacent to the M\\\ and were easy to read.

Thanks,

Re: 1995 brakes ooooh

I'm sure I've just read a post stating that the blades of the vents should point forward not backwards ?

This help ?, or can anyone confirm whats correct.

I'd check, but after a bottle of cider don't want to move the Range Rover from my garage door !!!!

WRONG.....THE BLADES SHOULD POINT BACKWARDS (SWEPT BACK). On each hub there is actually an L and R after the part number for left and right.

Re: 1995 brakes ooooh

A good late night flurry of activity here.
Thanks M5 powered
I just had to go out and fiddle about in the garage with a torch (flashlight) and I am fitted up correctly.
Didn't see the L and R designations first time round cos of the big gap from the serial No.

So my vibes are caused by something else. Too much late braking maybe.

Re: 1995 brakes ooooh

Sorry guys. It was the first post on this thread that I'd read a day or so ago.

"The inner vanes on the disc sweep back to the direction of travel rather than scoop air moving forwards."

It was obviously late when I posted - hence the memory overload !!
