Put E34 525 catalyst on E34 M5 3.8

Dear E34 guys

Last weekend my M5's catalyst got damaged.
Is it possible to put E34 525's catalyst on M5 with some pipe modification?
I'm wondering the capacity.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Put E34 525 catalyst on E34 M5 3.8

Is it possible sure. Should you do it NO. Why would you want to put a Cat designed for a 525 on a M5 (3.8 no less) is beyond me. If you are going to go thru the trouble to modify the cat you might as well get a straight pipe and do away with the cat altogether. I mean you wouldn't think of putting a set of rotors and calipers off a 525 onto your M5 would you? Sure it would save you some cash but what is the point of owning a M5 then?

PS-- Please wait at least a week before reposting your question if you get no replies.

Re: Put E34 525 catalyst on E34 M5 3.8

Thanks for the reply.
I absolutely understand how it's designed and the difference between two engines.
The choice of 525 catalyst was an example.

I might be able to get 540's or other catalyst.
I know that is not a best way to go.
I just wonder if there is technical flow interruption or not.
As you said owning M5 is more than something to me so I always eager to have best choice but sometimes I could look for second choice without major failure.

If someone can tell me the M5 specific catalyst system regarding the flow concept it will be appreciated.
And what second hand catalyst is going to be a good choice of my car.

Thanks once again
