3.6 or 3.8 ?

Hi

I am an e39 M5 owner (yet to pick it up) But a good friend has a 3.6 which resides in Spain. He's looking for another to use in the UK. There's a number of good looking 3.8's I and he knows the paper differences but really would appreciate some feedback from you knowledgeable guys on comparing the 3.6 to the 3.8

Mpg / perfomance / reliability etc

Any old threads of interest ?

Any views on the pros and cons of both ?

Thanks

Re: 3.6 or 3.8 ?

One fact often forgotten is that the difference in -bhp- is 32 bhp and not
25 bhp. The 3.8 is supposed to be an improvement otherwise BMW wud not
have allowed ///M to built that car. The 3.8 Li is faster, already below 3500 rpm, more advanced but
perhaps -if treated wrongly and not well maintained- a bit more vulnerable
to abuse. -
Use the -search-function, there shud be loads of information there and views
on this subject. It is one of the most common -threads- und issue.

Re: 3.6 or 3.8 ?

347 DIN - 315 DIN = 32 DIN
The 3,8 is measured in ECE (340)..

Re: 3.6 or 3.8 ?

Ha Ha....got me...

On the E34 FAQ site , and bmwm5.com it does not make a distinction between ECE & DIN.

Take a look as some 'real' results here

Dyno Day Results

As you can see the differences vary from 32.3 to 7.1 BHP.., there is only one 3.6 to make the comparison with, but it was the oldest car there by two years.
