UNWARRANTED VANDALISM

Well this weekend has been a proper disaster!

First of all my car wouldnt start...i tried pushing it to bump start it and got it wedged in a hole next to the kerb...imagine a 5ft3 8 stone lad tryin to push an m5 out of a hole..NOT FUNNY!!

Turns out one of the cells in my battery which was only a 480 was kaput...i upgraded it there and then to a new 700 battery...

then i went to my m8s house to watch a video at about 11pm....oarked it outside his house in a nice area on a back road where hardly anybody goes...

come out at 1pm...and some absolute a***h**e has keyed my car on every panel all around the car!!!???

WHAT IS THE POINT IN HAVING NICE THINGS !!!

how much do you guys reckon it will cost to get my panels resprayed???

Re: UNWARRANTED VANDALISM

A cheap re-spray will be about £100 a panel, an expensive one could be £500 a panel.

However, you may be able to get away with one of the SMART repairers such as ChipsAway or the like.

so these smart repairers can get rid of a deep guage down to the metal along the length of the car?

Similar thing had happened to my car down one side and it a repair had been attempted using some form of touch up. From a distance it looks fine but come withing 2m or so and you can see it quite clearly.

I washed and polished my car today and was totally horrified when you see just how much damage in the form of stone chips, scratches etc there is.

Just for your information, I had my oldest Capri fully resprayed for something like £600 and although the painting itself was a first class job, any repairs that were carried out, ie little dents filled in etc, were really of poor quality. 3 years or so ago, I was quoted £3500 to fully respray my other Capri, but as I was also requiring new front wings etc, I opted to postpone.

I really don't see what these clowns get out of doing something like keying your car, chances are they done even know you.
Sometimes I look at my car and think, I really have to wash it, having it nice and shiney, but it really does just attract more unwanted attention.
There is a lot to be said for having an old "run-about", where dents and scratches matter not.

It is a **** shame though, sorry to hear...

Re: UNWARRANTED VANDALISM

Sorry to hear that mate.

I had my Avus Blue 1995 keyed the Monday before last Christmas, and I was out of work. No way I could have it repaired. Only drivers and rear door though. The BMW bodyshop said about £450 to £500.

I've just started work as an IT Helpdesk Manager for a firm of nationwide solicitors, and they have no car park.

Spent 4 days with the M5 parked in the middle of Stoke.

Have just bought a K-reg 3.9 V8 Range Rover to go to work in. The M5 will be used as I'd always wanted, at the weekend and to where its "safe".

You can't seem to have nice things can you ?

Matrk

Re: UNWARRANTED VANDALISM

In October I had my 1991 m5 painted---cost me about $4500. This past june, a jealous gas attendent keyed my rear panel above the gas filler cap as i was going inside to view a map. I called the police but neither a witness or the video cam could show him in the act. The owner did offer to have his friend repaint but i refused. I asked him to pay the $500 to my autobody guy but he refused that; i am taking my lumops on this and may or may not repaint it. sorry to hear your misfortune but dont take it personally. It has happened and that's that.

i was speakin to my dad before...he wants me to get the car done as cheap as possible...but if i am gonna do it i want a good job cos the car deserves better....

i make the point that its the first time anything like this has happened in 4 years....but maybe its because its a bmw???

anyway i had a quote off a bodywork guy who is an excellent quality painter and an honest guy to boot.

to do both sides of my car up to the front wings and including 4 door handles will be 700 quid. if i want to throw in the front wings and my stonechipped front bumper and bonnet then it will be a grand altogether.

i think this is ok cos i'll get a top class job off this chap and my car will look mint! the roof and the boot are fine and dont need painting.

what do you guys think??

Re: UNWARRANTED VANDALISM

That´s horrible,

Imagine if you had the chance to catch the person doing that, oh the fury...

As I had posted in another thread: "No judge no jury, straight to execution".

I am also an advocate of parking the car in "less traveled" areas, in the interest of preventing anything from happening. Unfortunately, the world is filled with envious people, and your disgrace is their happiness.

That´s also true for valet parking. I will not let any valets come near my car. Actually, I give the guy an extra tip just so that he can remove whatever car is in front of whatever place I have to go, and park it myself and take the keys.

Regarding the paint job, I think that part of the process is finding a shop with those computerized mixture machines which have pretty much every single car color ever made. With this system it is pretty hard to mismatch the color. The second part is making sure that the painter puts at least 2-3 coatings to make sure that the texture blends perfectly with the rest of the panels.

Good luck and make sure you always carry a baseball bat in your car...
