It's a shame BMW never supplied a 6-speed in it, only a fiver. 6spd came in post-facelift 330i......... Even pre-facelift 330i's (like my work-hack) are 5spds!!!!

You've got me searching too there mate! Wasn't sure about the 6 speed in the first E46 too, but Steve set it right.

On the other facts, I am not sure if second them. The 328 ( 193 bhp) E36 will never ever keep up with my car. I have raced mine against a Z3 2.8, two tourings and a normal 328i. None of them came close, yes they were all manuals in good shape, and I know my car can be faster as the TB's need synchronising.

Yep!!

Doesn't quite feel as though your right foot is directly linked to the wheels.
Will you do it this week?

My experience with 328i is that they may be around for the first two gears but they are not for the next 2 gears.
330i is much more fun but even they are a not in the running after the top of third has come & gone & 4th really sees them off.
Theres a lot of 330i in the Home counties of Sth East England..great fun, though some do get angry..
Nevermind.

What he said.

1st has traction problems.
2nd is definitely gaining.
3rd game over.
4th you need a telephoto lens.
5th ask the RAF for a long range scan.

330i are very useful but if you've decided to go for it in a 3.8 once you've reached 70mph its just not in the same ball park.

I have an 328 and I can say that the 328 is an very quick car if you see what typ of car it is. It´s only an everday car so to speak. The M5 E34 is an sports car even it´s an 4 door solon.

The 328 is in my eyes only quick from 2000rpm to 5000rpm. After that the car just doesn´t have the power.
I´v race my M5 against my 328 and the 328 were way behind my M5. Maybe because my girlfriend were driving the 328...but she is crazy women when she drives the 328. She punches in the gears.

E34 v E39

E34 Alpina Bt vs E39 M5

I would have my money on the BT till around 250kmh, then I think the long legs of the M5 would kick in, anyone know better?

Of-course if its wet - the M5 all the way.

I hope they dont make an ar$e of themselves.

Anyway... These B10 Bi-Turbo.
Im a fan of the car.. A couple of the owners like DaveW & Corjan are realistic straight shooters when it comes to these cars & their performance & by default, I take the comments made by them seriously.

However, there are some owners on the Alpina forum who are pretty scary.
I dont believe a std 360 bhp Alpina B10 Bi-Turbo will do 188 plus mph.
Ive driven one car & it was lovely but it was not going to go much faster than a 3.8 ...
I got to 175 Mph indicated & there was not much more to come.
The owner was next to me at the time....grinning from ear to ear.
Aerodynamics are against the car compared to E39 M5 & the E39 is faster than a Bi-Turbo imho.

Its only my opinion & my comparisons are felt rather than fact.
