Anyway... These B10 Bi-Turbo.
Im a fan of the car.. A couple of the owners like DaveW & Corjan are realistic straight shooters when it comes to these cars & their performance & by default, I take the comments made by them seriously.

However, there are some owners on the Alpina forum who are pretty scary.
I dont believe a std 360 bhp Alpina B10 Bi-Turbo will do 188 plus mph.
Ive driven one car & it was lovely but it was not going to go much faster than a 3.8 ...
I got to 175 Mph indicated & there was not much more to come.
The owner was next to me at the time....grinning from ear to ear.
Aerodynamics are against the car compared to E39 M5 & the E39 is faster than a Bi-Turbo imho.

Its only my opinion & my comparisons are felt rather than fact.

2-0 - I predict in Englands favour.

Re bt v e39
Thats good enough for me. I forgot to take into account aerodynamics at higher speeds.

Hi there

Regarding the E34 3.8 versus E39 subject, on outright speed the E39 should win hands down, superior aerodynamics and more power do not require even require a showdown to take place, but on the acceleration stakes it might be fairly close up to 100 mph, especially if the E39 is laden with extras.

There is one aspect I would like to ask those people who have changed the standard E34 door mirrors for the M style ones.

Has anyone noticed if the M style mirrors made the car quieter when cruising at high speed at 180 km/h + ? Farrell I Believe you have changed your mirrors recently, noticed any improvements ?

On my car a 95 model with the later type of mirrors with dimples I certainly noticed a fair increase in noise related to the aerodynamics of the car when driving at speeds above 100 mph, and I appreciate its off topic but when I drive my fathers S class merc ( S320cdi 2001 model ) its whisper quiet all the way up to its maximum speed of 230 km/h, just shows the advances made by manufacturers as time goes by.

The aero mirrors definately make a difference at high speeds.

M3 3.6 has the normal mirrors vs my 3.8 which has has the aero mirrors and over 80mph there is a difference. Over 100mph there is a significant difference in noise.

Hi Joe
Hows things ?
Yes, since I fitted my Mirrors my top speed has increased by 20 mph
& fuel consumption has been improved by 5 mpg.
I think they have reduced drag......but not sure.

On the social front, I have now become a magnet for womens attentions & even had one young lady throw a black thong at me the other day as I drove along the road.
That was bit of luck as it matched the Bra on the front of the car.

Its been a win win situation with the Aero //M-Technic mirrors.
I just wish they had been fitted from the factory but then..I probably would'nt have wanted them anyway.

Farrell

hi there farrell

So I better ditch the idea of having my head gasflowed and fiting shrick cams and get some M style mirros quick when I finish my engine rebuild.

Are you sure the women thing is not affected by the Bra ?

regards

I own both and each car has its up and downs. Both cars have different purposes and different style of driving. E39 has the gizmos and pure power while the E34 has no traction control!

Two awesome cars.

I would have my money on the BT till around 250kmh, then I think the long legs of the M5 would kick in, anyone know better?

Of-course if its wet - the M5 all the way.

I think they have reduced the drag-queen look, but others aren't sure.

Gotta echo Woot here Faz, discussing your nights on the town with (in) the boys is really unworthy of your respected moderator status!
