Little OT: Interesting stat about the new Porsche 997 Carrera S

The new 997 has a 3.8L flat 6 and makes 355 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.

These numbers sound suspiciously similar to a certain BMW w/ a 3.8L inline 6. Glad to see that Porsche has finally caught up to the E34 M5. .

Even more amazing is that the Porsche GT3, currently the wildest N/A 911-series car, makes 380 hp and 285 lb-ft of torque from 3.6L using the best of Porsche technology (titanium engine parts, etc.), which is only 12% more hp and 10 lb-ft of torque less than the M5s motor.

Just makes you feel good to be driving a car with a motor 10 years ahead of it's time.

Re: Little OT: Interesting stat about the new Porsche 997 Carrera S

So the new carrera S weighs 1420 kilos.

So what would it take to lose the 230 kgs from a M5 3.8 which weighs 1650 kg to getthe power to weight the same?

Lots of carbon fiber, in fact you can start that diet by getting in on E34 cf hood GB at bimmerforums.com. only need 2 more to start prod on narrow grill. They will be 100% cf, no fiberglass.

I wish I could see a finished article, is there anyone here in the UK opting to get one of these?
