Rollers !!

Does anyone have any thoughts and/or knowledge on replacing the front and rear Anti roll bars on the M5 ....??

I would be interested in hearing about different setups advanatges disadvantages etc , and how you have found it compared to the standard setup

Many Thanks

one simple and straight forward 'uppgrade' is to use the rear anti roll bar
from the M5touring

(PS: did u ever get the goodies from the -mobile tradition- ?)

Re: Rollers !!

Karl.................

Nice to hear from you, hope you are well ...

Will the rear upgrade from a Touring be sufficient without upgrading the front ?? How does your Touring handle compared with a saloon??

I have spoke with Herr Jacobsen and it appears the Goodies have gone missing in the post

They are arranging a new Certificate ..but sadly I have missed out on the brochure...

Good to hear from you...

Re: Rollers !!

What specifically about your chassis tuning are you trying to change?

Re: Rollers !!

I can't remember where I saw it, but feel sure that the 1995 cars with the Nurburgring suspension had the 1mm thicker rear anti-roll bar as standard........same as the touring.........

...must try and find where I read it..........and add it to this post.

Anyone else think this ? Or just me ?? !!

Found one extract here....

http://member.rivernet.com.au/btaylo...tiveSuspe.html

"but sadly none of the
performance goodies - the awesome 3.8L engine, the EDCIII+ adaptive
suspension, or even the Nurburgring package of larger rear wheels and tires
and enlarged rear sway bar. But, can the EDCIII+ be adapted to the US spec
car?
"
Here's where I read that the 1995 car has a 1mm thicker rear sway bar (20mm), but no mention of what the touring has....is that bigger still ?

Re: Rollers !!

IIRC mine, with the Nurburgring suspension, has a 19mm rear bar whereas the Touring is 20mm

Re: Rollers !!

Here's where I read it was 20 mm.

http://www.bmwe34m5.com/registry/HTMLFiles/WZ.htm

Having just looked through the original BMW press pack for the 3.8 M5, it states that the roll bar on the Nurburgring package is 19mm, instead of 18mm.

Suppose that clears that up. You know what it's like when you can half remember something.........!!

So a 20 mm from the touring would stiffen the rear up, and cause more understeer ??

No. Stiffening the rear relative to the front will decrease understeer.

What I am trying to achieve is a little more stability when cornering at speed

OK, does that mean that you are feeling too much body roll or wallowing in corners? If so, I would recommend stiffer springs and perhaps shocks with better damping circuits. Just getting a stiffer rear anti-roll bar without any other changes will only slightly increase body roll resistance while also increasing the car's propensity to oversteer.

If you mean that the rear breaks loose too easily when applying power on corner exits (fun but slow), you want to firm up the front, not the rear.

If you mean the front plows too much, the stiffer rear bar will help a bit, but learning to enter the corner a bit slower will help a lot and also allow you to exit much quicker and in a more neutral attitude. Plus, it's free.

Good luck,
--Pete
