Cars you would sell your E34 for...

Not sure if this is allowed in the E34 forum (sorry if it isn't!), but I was thinking about what else I would have instead of my 3.8, and I can't really think of anything.

The closest I could think of was obviosuly the Merc E500, but its a bit dull, so I have been looking at the Maserati Ghibli series. A late 90's GT sounds like very good value for money, and a great Q car. Its all academic really, as I won't sell my E34, but I will definitely be on the look out for a Ghibli in the not too distant future.

Just in case anyone is interested, other stuff that I hope will grace my collection includes...

Integrale Evo II
Elise S1
B10 Bi-Turbo
E30 M3
F355 Berlinetta
...oops forgot my F40 (long time to wait though )

Anyone got any experience thoughts on the Ghibli and how it might compare to the E34?

Cheers,
Bryn.

Re: Cars you would sell your E34 for...

I'd be happy with any of these...

• M5 Touring
• Porsche 911 (Clubsport or RS)
• 850CSi
• B10 4.6 V8S or Bi-Turbo
• Alpina B12 6.0
• Honda NSX
• Brabus CV8
• Mercedes E55 AMG
• Nissan Skyline GTR R34

However, most of these were looked at before I got the M5 and were dismissed on the basis of being 2+2 seaters (911, 850, NSX), automatics (CV8, E55, B10 V8S, B12), or LHD (B10 Bi-Turbo, M5 Touring).

That left the Nissan Skyline which was too max power for me at the time and while a proper 4 seater, was still a lot harder to get two adults in the back than the M5 - and trying to get an un-modified one was not worth the hassle!

Re: Cars you would sell your E34 for...

Yes......my uncle bought brand new a 1996 911 Carrera 4, dark blue, light grey leather. Done less than 20k now. Mint. My cousins just bought it off him for £35k. Lucky or what. Before that my cousin had spent £28k on a new Elise, and did nothing but break his heart. Not bad at the age of 25 !!

So, it'd be....

Money no object.....

Lambo - Diablo / Muircelago (or however you spell it)
New V10 M5
Ferrari 355 (tin top)
E55 AMG etc

Cars which would be reachable if I could get a job.........obviously not new ones.....

M5 V8....although some say don't swap an E34 M5 for it......
911 Carerra 4 - 4wd so I don't die...........
Audi S4 Avant
E39 530d Sport ? would be bought with head - not heart.....
E34 M5 Limited Edition.......would have to be mint............
Lancer Evo - though never been in one........
Lancia Integrale - but don't like LHD.......
Dodge Charger in orange and 01 on the doors
Ford Gran Torino in red...and with er...white stripe...

That's about it. Quite good considering there was a time I didn't like anything else at all....

Re: Cars you would sell your E34 for...

mmmm...some nice choices.

I'd like to add:

Aston Martin Driving Dynamics Works Prepared V600 Vantage
1970 Pllymouth hemicuda RT Coupe
Brabus EV12 (without the 6 exhausts...thats just overkill!!)
Dodge Ram SRT 10
HSV GTS Commodore (supercharged)
1984 Ferrari 288 GTO
Porsche 928 GTS

If money was no object i'd have a Grumman F14 Tomcat and a Chally 2 tank but thats me just being silly

Re: Cars you would sell your E34 for...

Mmmm.... let me see.

McLaren F1 -
If I was rich enough to buy it, I`d be dating twins, and would therefore require three seats.

E34 M5 with the V10 engine from the E60 M5 -
Hideously expensive modification, but the only way to seriously up power and keep the sound.

1960s Batmobile -
Retro kitsch that would go down fabulously driving along the sea front in summer.

Ford Mustang -
Big V8 noise, must be all black like the one Wesley drove in the film Blade

Ducati 996ss -
Or maybe the 999. not sure. Will get a bike license and try out!

Porsche 911 996 Turbo -
Driven Porsches UK demonstrator (911 HUL) hard, and it`s a bullet...

Stretched Hummer Limo -
The ten seater will do for those big nights out with the gang!! Must be black or bright metallic red though.

An ice cream van -
Always wanted one. With a muscle car V8.

Dodge Viper -
A new one, without the hardtop. Because I know a very pretty girl who will sleep with me if I bought one of these.

That`s all folks !!

Re: Cars you would sell your E34 for...

Where do I start...

Lotus Carlton
BMW M5 (E39)
Audi Quattro Turbo (short wheel base)
Ford Mustang (gone in 60 seconds style)
BMW Alpina B10 (Bi Turbo)
Ford Capri 280 turbo (hey already got one) or a Tickford
Ford Weslake Race Capri 1972
Porsche 911 turbo of some sort
Ford RS 500 sierra
Opel Ascona 400

That would be my current top 10, but the list is subject to change depending on finances and such. Pretty much apart from the E39 and the Porsche, the rest, I would only consider to be a weekend fun car.

Re: Cars you would sell your E34 for...

As I own an M5 touring I could only ADD car to my Garage for trackdays and week-end pourpose.

1 M3 CSL black with free exhaust (only pipe like f1)
2 1984 288 GTO (I could die for this one)
3 1989 911 speedster black (some RUF touch?? why not!!)

all the best

Re: Cars you would sell your E34 for...

For practicallity reasons, I *would* actually swap my '95 M5 touring. Only 2 cars would qualify as replacements, in the contxtual use I have for the car:

-AMG E55 touring (preferrably a 4-matic), or
-Z3M coupe, without sunroof!

Both in discrete colours, please.
I am lucky enough to own a variety of Porsches, so the high bling appeal is not in my tastes. For driving pleasure/historical interest/bang for the buck/ reliability, nothing touches an ir/oil cooled 911.

George Hi..trust you are well.

I think an Audi RS6 would be tempting...but after doing the Porsche thing I decided to add the M3. To be fair the P wasn't Air cooled so I will have to track one down and get the garage extended...again.
