Hello Fellow Enthusiast,

After selling my 1995 Daytona Violet M5 in February because I thought I wanted a E39 M5, then I realized I really didn't care for the new body style, so I purchased a Brilliant Red 1995 M5 with a Red and black cloth interior, I don't know if the interior is factory original as it looks like a custom job to me, the seller has a factory slip that documents the red and black interior but it's written in German if anyone can speak/write german please decode this for me "MOD.-NR; HC91 FARBE; 314 POLSTER: L7SW
L SA ; 0243 0302 0401 0494 0500 0528 0530 0540 0669 0676
0686 0710 0818

944: Sonderwunsch fur BMW M5 Fahrgestellnr.: GD64584

Sitzmittelbahn in Stoff rot (Schlusselnr. C7RE)
Turinnenverkleidungen (Einsatze) in Stoff rot (Schlusselnr.
C7RE)
SitzauBenbahnen in Stoff Amaretta"

I decoded the numbers as follow:

243 Passenger side air bag
302 Theft alarm with remote control
401 Sliding electrical sun roof
494 Heated seats (Driver and passenger)
500 Headlight washer position for intensive cleaning
528 Automatic Air circulation
530 Air Conditioning
540 Multi-functioning Steering Wheel, include cruise control
669 Radio BMW Business RDS
676 Premium Audio System
686 Diversity Antenna
710 M-Style leather steering wheel with airbag

Please help me decode the German language
818 Main Battery Switch
944 Labor Conversion Internal Dept. ZS.

This car is definitely a keeper regardless of whether interior is original or a custom installation

Your interior was done by BMW Individual. "Sonder" is "special," and it says you have the middle of the seats in red, and the outer bolsters in armaretta. Its an original interior, and probably one of a kind. Sweet car, btw.

Hello Dewitt and Gustov,

Dewitt thanks for the translation and compliment, Gustov thanks for the compliment. When I first examine the car I really didn't like the interior and the car wouldn't start, I almost walk away from the purchase but the guy had all the documentation for servicing (mounds of paper work), plus he had an original document verifying the car as derestricted for 170 mph. The sad part of the story is the guy (extremely nice guy ) I bought the car from is going through a divorce and he just spent 4100 British pounds on engine repair (rebuilt head, new timing chain, two new distributors coils, he really needed to sell the car. Needless to say, I'm in love with this car and yes I'll will take an anal approach when maintaining this car. Again, Dewitt thanks for the help and gentlemen thanks for the compliments.

Niice M3,

Why did you sell the M3 (did you upgrade to a E46 M3?) After a disappointing driving experience in my friend's 2003 M3, I knew I had to purchase another E34 M5, his new M3 felt very weak below 5000 (the torque factor), suspension was too harsh (felt like I was riding directly on the wheels), they're beautiful cars, but you have to rev them too much to experience the power. Yes, the E39 M5 is much faster than the E34, but I can't swallow the turtle/teardrop 90s style body shape (no offense to fellow enthusiast, just my personal opinion/bias.) Definitely looking forward to puchase the E60 M5, yes it's weird looking but I'm sure it will grow on me.
Here's more pictures of my m5. No that's isn't me in the pictures, one of the Air Force's security guards inspecting my car before entering the base.

Garcia,

Bloody nice car .......that paintwork has recieved some waxing it looks great in the hanger !!
Tell me do you regret selling the Daytona Violet, or is the new one in better nick?

Would you do me a favour .......thinking about fitting M style wing mirrors ..I have two questions :-

1. Would you be able to measure in inches from the door frame to the edge of the wing mirror ( need to know if car will fit in garage if i fit them) in other words how many inches in width will it make the car

2. Do these mirrors fold like the standard M5 Mirrors ?

Regards

Hello Zippy,

Thanks for the compliment, I don't miss the datona violet car, this car has a more pronouce racing sound (possibly less sound deadner added to this car),also has a heavier clutch and I like the feel of the three-spoke steering wheel verses the datona violet car steering wheel. As for performance it feels the same. The paint on the red car is in better shape (no scratches at all or stone chips on the front of the car, cosmetically the red car's exterior is in better shape.) The other car had 84,000, this car has 104,000.

The side mirrors extend 7 1/2 inches from the frame of the window and they don't fold, hope this helps.

I had the same colour on my M3:

and I parked it next to a Ferrari 360 and its the identical Ferraricolour! I really liked it, its more bright than the Imolared. Wax it alot and it gets more bright red than orange.
Do you mean Rosso Corsa?

Hellrot was an interesting color. BMW sort of phased it out, favoring Mugellorot for some reason (at least on the E34 M5). Mugellorot had a lot of "orange" toner in it. Every single picture of of Mugellorot comes out in an orange tint.

I seem to recall on fellow in one of the articles with a Hellrot E39 M5. I do not know if the E65 M5 will look good in rot, its just difficult to visualize it.

I thought it was the other way around de Witt? I had a M3 3,0 with Mugellorot (very orange) and then a 1996 M3 with Hellrot. Hellrot was much nicer I think.

Hellrot on a E39 M5 looked very great and very greessive on an M5. Impossible not to notice in a good and bad way.

Garcia,

Many thanks for the measurements, great help

I have just noticed on your pictures that the rear tail fin is a completely different shape than the one fitted standard to my car .....come to think of it i have never seen one like that ...:cool2: :cool2:

Is it genuine BMW or aftermarket ??

Zippy,

As for the spoiler, your guess is as good as mine, I had the same thought about the spoiler when I examined the car for the first time, seems much more aggressive than the standard spoiler, it's not on the option code list so I'll assume it's a aftermarket installation (one thing for sure, I think it looks just as good as a factory installed spoiler, it will stay on the car) everything is weird about this car, the interior, the steering wheel, the missing dark color on the ground affects, COULD SOMEONE EXPLAIN THE BMW RDS BUSINESS RADIO OPTION. Either the original owner requested alot of strange options or this car has been through numerous cosmetic changes in it's life time.

[Not sure about the spoiler at all,

NOW THE REAL BAD NEWS, Bought the car on Saturday, had a blast driving the car all saturday, no problems at all. Sunday, drove to the Air base auto hobby shop to steam clean the engine bay, then I drove around town for a few minutes to dry out the engine bay, no problems on Sunday. On the way to work I noticed a slight hesitation halfway to work and then the oil pressure light comes on (WHAT DA!@#$), check the oil level after arriving at work, slightly less than a quart low, returned the car to the house at lunch time, during the drive home the light comes on again, plus the car is stalling and surging in slow traffic (did the pressure steam cleaner dislodge something in the engine bay or is this a major problem. ) Well, guess I'll spend the next few days driving the car from under the hood, time to open up the garage, jack up the car and find the culprits, hopefully it won't swallow my wallet.
Time for pulling out the old musclecar coverall. Keep your fingers crossed
I'll need all the luck in the world

Sorry I can't help in the problems you are having but I would guess it is linked to the steam clean, personally I have resisted doing this with all those electronics in th engine bay. hopefully with time it will all dry out and be ok.

Regarding the specificiation of your car what does the color sticker on the Left hand front strut tower say the color is, I am guessing that it is an "individual" spec car.

Water/ steam in the engine room, a no no...... ;)
I would suggest that you remove all the ignition coils and dry the coils and the hole for the plugs(with compressed air or soft cloth for the holes), I´m sure this is the source of your hesitation problems.
as for the oil pressure sensor..... It may recuperate with time and heat from the engine or you´ll have to change it

Yes, I remember thinking I'd clean the engine on my 735i a number of years ago.......

......covered in degreaser, and hosed off. looked cool...started it up. Lumpy. them back fired as I touched the throttle. Blew the exhaust to bits, pieces of the back box were hanging down on the floor. Was at my parents for the weekend. £900 later and a genuine BMW full exhaust was fitted, and I could go home.

Won't do that again in a hurry.

GET DAMP CLOTH. CLEAN BEAUTIFUL ENGINE BY HAND

It'll be fine when it's dry !!!

To All,

Thanks for the encouraging word, needless to say I was a little down and out yesterday (thinking about the worst case scenario), hopefully it's something minor like the oil sensor or water intrusion. Yes, I'll never steam clean an M engine again. The exterior color label on the strut tower says "hellrot", bright red. I left the car at home today(have a good friend who is quite familiar with M cars) I'll get him to check the car out before I drive it again. Oil temp is normal, but I need to correct the oil pressure light problem before driving the car again.
