Dinan Chip Question

I recently purchased a 3.6 91 M5....I was wondering if i should invest in a dinan chip....do you really get peak hp?....is the change noticeable?....what are your thoughts on this? Also, what is the offical 0-60 time before the chip and after? Thanks

Re: Dinan Chip Question

I did the chip with the cam gears. There was a big difference. However I haven't dyno'd the car so I can't give you raw numbers. I don't have any concrete 0-60 times but I can tell you its pretty fast for a big sled. I don't do many standing starts on the limit. I can tell you I've had no problems with the setup. There are lots of chip choices out there. Do some homework and ask yourself what your goals are for the car. Then make a decision. I was going with the Dinan theme on my car, so it wasn't to tough. Good luck which ever way you go.

You might want to email Dinan for most of these answers. As far as before and after times it would vary greatly on the car(Not to mention the skill of the driver). Not all M5's are created equal and different cars would react differently to Dinan's chip because it is made to work for all 3.6 engines. However I doubt you will get Dinan's or anybodies chip to dyno their claimed results on our cars.

While I do have a Dinan chip installed in my car it was done by the previous owner and I have never driven with the stock chip in place so don't know what kind of difference there might be. The chip is a fairly cheap enhancement and is probably worth your time and money. There are several makers besides Dinan such as EAT aka Sylva and Jim Conforti; both of whom have very good reputations.

Re: Dinan Chip Question

I did the chip and the cam gears. I would do it again in a heartbeat. It was very noticeable, especially at wide open throttle. Shop around for price though as some of the smaller independent dealers will give you a discount off list if you ask. Their price is far below list. Don't buy the dinan gears. Buy the 3.8 gears. Check old threads this subject has come up several times before. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. By the way Dinan has dyno charts on their web site if you haven't found that already. They are probably close to what you would actually get.

I agree. Dinan charges $561 USD for the cam gears. I got them for $180 from Pacific BMW. I use a Conforti chip. So, for under $500, you get 50 horses and what's better, tire-frying torque! My first test after both was a 40 foot set of tracks!
