Painted "throwing star" option?

Was there an option from the factory to have the "Throwing Star" painted in the cars colour?
I am talking about the original wheels for the Euro 3.8 Liter now, the wheels were also available for the 1993 US M5.

Officially the only cars with the throwing star covers painted black were the twenty "Jahre Motorsport" edition cars built to celebrate the 20th anniversary of BMW Motorsport.

"Based on the 3.8-liter sedan, they are all painted Mugello Red (274) and include the following equipment:
-Nurburgring package
-M-Technic rearview mirrors
-Contrasting M lower body panels in Jet Black (668)
-M System II wheels with black-painted "throwing star" centers"

I`ve seen a variety of cars over the years with the centre covers painted body colour. I suspect that BMW may have offered this, maybe as dealer "specials", or simply that owners had them customised when they got a bit old and chipped as part of refurbishment.
