1990 3.6l - new engine - well 5500 miles ago. speedo reading of 162/163 mph , 7000rpm - my fasted yet - opps ! well would that seem acceptable figures ? there was a J plate mazda rx7 in front sitting at the same speed - we were just having a bit of fun. we took turns at being in front - i couldn't pull away much when in front. anybody else experienced one of these maxda's ?
when i say new - new block, pistons, crank , shells etc. new clutch, timing chains sprockets etc. original head was pressure tested - ok - decoked, new valve stem seals etc. also fitted a new rear section to the exhaust, new coil springs to rear, new pipes to the rear hydraulic suspension, two new michelin pilot sport's to rear wheels and a couple of other bits.
total bill £7500
it was not a bmw dealership who carried out the work - just a good mechanic, and he seems to have done a good job.
3rd generation mazda RX 7, in standard trim top speed approx 160 mph which would explain why you could not really get away from him.
255 bhp, very light construction, small frontal area and good aerodinamics, being a turbo car, its quite simple to up the boost and do a few simple mods and have an extra 50/60 bhp.
surprisingly fast for the power output, but long term reliability a bit suspect on the rotary engine, as far as I am concerned the best looking the 3rd gen is the best looking of the RX7
