Wiper blade part numbers?

Sorry for such as simple question but no one I have spoken to knows the answer.

Anybody out there know of the PN for the driver's side (left side) wiper blade? Both my local BMW dealer and Bavauto.com showed PN 61 61 8 361 475 as the correct part but the wiper blade does no match what is currently installed on my '91 M5 and I have not had success instaling it.

The current wiper (looks OE since there is a large roundel logo embossed on the wind deflector) on the car is physically longer and there is an slight offset between the point where the arm attaches to the wiper and the plane of the rubber wiper. Another difference is that the the part of wiper arm that attaches to the wiper blade "curls" from the bottom. This is contrast to the right side wiper arm that "curls' from the top. (BTW, the wiper blade ordered for the right side fits perfectly.)

So I am not sure if the previous owner had changed the wiper arm (I am the 2nd owner and all the repair records that I have show no record of it being changed) or BMW fitted an arm from the previous model year (build date on the car is Jan 91). Anybody run into this before?

Thanks --Azmir

Azmir,

Are you changing the entire wiper arm, wiper blade, or just the wiper edge? I just change the wiper edge on my car. Both the drivers side and passengers side use the same refill; Bosch Micro Edge Wiper Refill part no. 43324 it is 24 inches it fits Bosch Micro Edge Blade #40724.
Sorry I don't know the BMW part#'s. It is possible that the previous owner could have changed the entire wiperarm assembly but not likely as these don't normally break or need replacement, especially for the drivers side wich does not have the problem of hood clearence like the passengers side.

I purchased 2 genuine BMW wiper blades from a dealer last Saturday morning. I have still got the packaging with the relevant part numbers on. The drivers blade is slightly longer than the passenger side. Both fit on my 1995 M5 fine.

Unfortunately, the packets are in my garage, so I won't be able to let you know the part numbers till tomorrow. I also have a receipt, so I'll double check the numbers there as well.

All the best
Mark

Ah, the part numbers are

BM 61.61.8.217.706 Left Hand Side

BM 61.61.8.217.714 Right Hand Side

That was for my right hand drive 1995 M5.

I do not know how BMW determine which is the left and right hand side. I don't remember what blade I got from what packet, but the one with the big fin on is the drivers side......

Cost from a UK dealer £29.10 total.

Hope this helps

Mark

Guys,

Thanks for the input. I noticed an '89 535i in the neighborhood had the same type of wipers as my '91 M5, so I went online and did a search for wipers for this car and model year. The part number that I got was 61 61 8 217 705 and the picture of it looked very similar to what I have on my 91 M5. So just a digit off from the P/N that Mark had provided (probably the same part....). I'll try this part out and see if I have better luck.

On a side note, I drove my 318is today for the first time in 2 months (M5 was in the shop for a steam clean to figure out the source of an engine oil leak - looks like the oil pan gasket). What a difference! Clutch and accelerator was too light and I had a few "pucker up moments" when the brakes were not biting as early as I had expected. Of course there was the lack of grunt (and accompanying roar) when stomping on the accelerator. The only bright spot was how much more accurate the steering felt compared to the M5. After getting used to driving it again, the 318is' fuel pump decided to call it quits on me! Can't wait to get the M5 back.....

I had this problem as well. It seems that 91 M5’s came with the windshield wipers, which were later used on BMW 740’s. I put the 740 wipers and they fit like the ones that the car came with.

Regards,

Marek
