e34 M5 3,6 problem....

Hello to everyone on the forum...

Since i am a newby here, please do not take some of my questions for bad...

Well, i have a problem with my car.I experienced a full engine explosion. My water pump went off line and the coolant just boilled
inside the engine, head bents and cracks, water poured in to engine and result was a BIG explosion inside the block...
Damage ????
Huh...

Whole engine basicaly.

So i bought everything new from authorized dealer:
block was 3000€
head was 1500€
pistons 450€ each
al the other material for complete rebuild of engine was 2500€
I paid 9700€ for parts, and 1200€ to dealer for rebuilding the engine.
This far everythnig is ok...
But....
Now when my car is up and running again i noticed that it behaves slightly differently than before. It does not go as it should.
After a week of brainstorming what could be the reason for poor idle, and shaking of the engine and occasioanal missfire, we realized that those idiots in the dealership didn't connect that small vacuum tubes to the resonator and to two vacuum valves and to the air intakers on the top of the engine. In fact they didnt return those hoses either....
So now i am wondering if it is possible for anyone to take a picture of those hosing on his own m5 and post it here ???
Or a drawing would be nice too, so i can connect those tubes myself.
One tube is connected to the top flap in the resonator.Three of them are connected to the air intakers on top of the engine in mid section.Thats all i could see from a picture i found on internet.
In the dealership a guy said that they know how to rebuild a engine, but they forgot to write down the connection of those hoses, so i should try some other authorized dealer if they would have this draving...
Aaarggghh....
PLEASE HELP !!

Best Regards

And another thing....
If you want to see those hosing, you HAVE to dismount the resonator....
12 bolt on the intakes, 2 at the bottom,2 on the accelerator, 3 hoses...
cca 45min to take it off and back on again....

Yet again,
PLEASE HELP!!

Best Regards

sad nobody has replied

sorry i cant help as i have a 3.8L but also rebuilt the engine completely and was like a 3000 piece jigsaw without the picture

You could try to get your dealer to print off the pictures of the hoses from the parts dept it will not be straightforward to look at but is understandable

Good luck and also check your grounds to the chassis, o2 sensor.etc etc

Hope this helps

Steve Mac

I've changed o2 sensor, with new one.
All the grounds are ok.
I bassically changed everything what could cause the problem.
Sparks,idle switch,idle motor for air.....

On the parts CD are some drawings, but they are FALSE !!!!
I saw a M5 3.6 in Austria in a shop.I tried to look at the hoses, where are they connected and so on, but they wouldn't let me remove the air resonator....
What i did saw is that the hose of the resonator flap is connected to the valve which is mounted on the bottom of the resonator.
On the parts CD drawing this hose is connected to the valve mounted on the engine block. That is WRONG!!!
I started the engine on that car and it was poetry.

Hope i will manage to solve this problem soon, because that irratic idle is driving me nuts...

Regards,

saso

No probs

Quick check does the flap work when you start the engine (twice i think) if not there is a problem

First check the pipes (if you want e-mail me i have all the info you need)

I am sure there is only three outlets on the manifold one is capped (nothing)
One is for the fuel pressure regulator
and the other is for the vacuum tank this supples the resonance flap and the air injection circuit ,

There is also a control unit, but for sure yours is only because of a mix up in the pipe lines

Mr ReVerse

woooaahhh - nice one - sorry i didn't check the msgboard earlier

i've blown my engine TWICE and both rebuilds have been costly

luckily i have a great BMW garage that have put the engine together in a week or so

but as i have NO technical expertise, i can only suggest that you try and get hold of the BMWparts cd that offers blown-up diagrams (no pun intended) of all the connections, etc...

one of my friends (who works for daimler chrysler) has such a cd - maybe if it is hugely inconvenient for you to get hold of one, i can copy out the pages which correspond to your dilemma and attach them in an email to you...?
