Anyone use gas additives in your M5

Someone told me to use 1/2 bottle Marvel Mystery Oil to full tank of gas to lube the top half of the engine, valves, etc.

I have not done it for fear of fouling plugs or something else.

Anyone ever heard of this?

Regards

Never used a fuel additive. I too am afraid of screwing things up.

I do use engine cleaners, which is added to the fuel. I use BG 44k, and I have nothing but good things to say about BG 44K.

How often do you add the BG 44K?

Rick,

I like to use BG every 7000 miles or so. Most of the time I forget to put it in on this regimine, so I guess a better estimate would be every 4 months.

I put it in more frequently than others might suggest due to my M5 being driven almost daily, and on city streets. Putting it in more frequently prevents possible carbon hot-spots, which are more likely to occur with city driving (stop n go Denver 3pm traffic, gotta love it). It is slightly expensive, at nearly $20 a can, but it is definetly worth it, 'specially with the S38.

Hope this helps.

I use 104 + octane booster...I have a Dinan Stroker engine, Stage II..It just needs a higher octane and the response is instantly....It is juat a little expensive to do all the time...So I bought 4 cases @ 90 bucks each. Thats 24 cans. Cheaper than the $5.99 + tax single...Alan

Alan Jr,

Is the product called "104+ Octane Booster?" Where do you get it?

Also, Im intrigued by your Dinan Stage II stroker. What are the specs? I have been considering 1) tuning my S36B35, 2) dropping in an S36B36 or B38, 3) having Dinan or Korman build me a stroker engine. I would like to hear your thoughts on any aspect: power, sound, drivability, reliability, parts, cost, etc.

I appreciate it

Sorry for being dim, but do you have the Stage II or the Stage III stroker? Also how do you get around the 'not for street use' emissions? I only ask as your profile says 402bhp Stage III and your post says Stage II (typo I guess)!

If Dinan can get 90hp from a stroked 3.6, what can they do to a 3.8? Or is it the same job, just cheaper as the source engine is already bigger and the compression ratio is higher at 10.5:1 instead of their 10.2:1 stroker.

Dinan never touched a B38 in his research and development of a package for the S38; only the B36. He only lists "US Models" in his catalogue, and only the B36. You could give him a call to get the latest word....

Frank Fahey, in San Diego, might be a better source for tuning the B38. He seems to do more "custom" work.

Paul,

Quick question for letting the car warmup on those mild winters you guys have up there in Denver. Do you let car warm up,if so how long?, or do you jump in and go as is suggested by some?

Thanks,
Rick
