Hello again!!
One question...
I read a thread about the obc test(Turning on the ignition while pushing down the button on the right on the instrument cluster)
As I understood ALL the meters should hit the max with this test.
In my car every meter hit the max marker except that rev counter showed 4000 revs/min and the spedo read 140km/h(approx. 87 mph)

What does this mean??

(at the moment my baby`s at a BMW garage for waterpump and windshield change) original waterpump at 133000 kms(83k miles)
Waiting for new rear subframe bushings and new clutch in the near future.

I was told that all the needles went around to max. They do not. Most go full travel, but the speedo and the rev counter go to about halfway.

I have tried it on the 535 and the M5, plus others have reported it only going this far.

I think that the generalisation of "press the button and do the ignition and all the dials move about" has been been misinterpreted as to how exactly they move about.

Ivan is correct. The Speedo and Rev needles should only go about halfway. I have done this to my E34 M5 and 525i.

I second what Ivan has said. The results Sakke reported are identical to those I get in my own car when performing this test. Full scale needle deflection on the speedometer and tachometer is not to be expected -- at least not on any of the cars I am familiar with.

I think that some of this misunderstanding may have arisen from a photo that was posted here a month or two ago which initially appeared to be a shot of the instrument cluster (needles pegged) taken at a very high rate of speed. This turned into a test-related debate when several members questioned discrepancies in the photo -- most notably having to do with the fact that the water temp and oil temp were nowhere near operating temperature. Actually, I just found the thread HERE.

Perhaps some of the older models tested a bit differently?
