Rulers please! Euro M5 badge location

On my 95 M5 my stock trunk badge seems to be located (top of badge) at a height level with the top of the roundel and the left side of the Motorsport colors start at a position straight up from the edge of where the right rear brake light start. I have seen many posts on badging even a few referencing location but can't find one with the definitive answer. I have even seen a few Euros with badges that seem to be in a higher and further to the left location than the pics of US builds. Is badge location just one more of the "handmade" differences that we see in our cars or is there really a "factory correct" spot for the truck badge.

Anyway, got a shiny new badge ready to be put in the "proper" location soon.

TIA,

GDA,

I can understand why you would want to "get this right" the first time, but I'm not immediately aware of the proper mounting specification ... and, being a product of German engineering, you can be certain that they do have a prescribed method of doing this, down to the millimeter.

Part of the problem with badging a Euro M5 is that you almost never see a badged M car in Europe ... at least not here in Germany. I've looked at more than a dozen E34 M5s (including my own) here in the Fatherland, and not one wore the factory emblems. Most were ordered that way from the factory, as the Germans have a real thing for understatement ... they call such cars "Tiefstaplers."

I would go back and study detail photos in the member registries at both www.bmwe34m5.com and www.bmwmregistry.com to get a visual concensus on positioning.

Chuck

Thanks for the pics and help. My badge sits an inch and a half to the left and slightly over an inch higher than yours. Definitely in the wrong spot after looking at your pic and other on the registry.

Looks like I got my new weekend project.

Later,

GDA,

If you study the original BMW promotional materials, early photo spreads and reviews in magazines, etc., I think you will discover that Mmm-Five's badging is either right on the money, or perhaps offset a bit too far to the right. It all depends upon which image you are looking at, but I tend to think that he's got it right.
