Mods : exhaust system - packing removed from centre + rear mufflers, Restoration items: Reinstall the SLS, interior tidy up, Bodywork : repair small dents and re-coat in the original color (done - February 2014)

Long term dream - full E39 M5 drivetrain. Will be repainted Sebring Grey with black lower trim and full M5 bodykit.
530i 5 speed project, daily driver

1990 E34 M5 S38B36 GA25349 Engine only , the location of the rest of the M5 is a mystery

Thanks I wonder if because it was a press car there were mods made that BMW does not want published?

More likely is that the cars were validated prior to release. It's standard practice to run conformity of performance checks for the press fleet.

what do you think the shorter final drive ratio would be? I think the standard touring axle ratio was 3.15

It appears 2.81 is standard and shorter/export is 3.15

Yes, Sir, press or show cars were specifically 'prepared' before being released to the show or the 'crowd of motor journalists'.
This does normally include a special engine performance check and so on... and it is indeed kept confidential...
what it is that is done to any specific 'press- or show car' differs from car to car... and although NOT a researchers
favourite, it is understandable.... transparency obviously has a limit...

Thank you for the information I thought that maybe that was the case. I did find this line on one of the vin decoders I tried.
