Newbie Steering Box Help!

Hi all not long got myself an E34 M5 in need of TLC, steerings abit knotchy, non responsive, and noisey so looking to swap out the box. Can anyone let me know is the Steering box the same in the 3.6 as in the 3.8?
Thanks in advance

I think the ratio and bolt on geometry is the same, but if equipped (factory option) with SERVOTRONIC, then it's different P/N box. Not sure if US B36 got servotronic which I think they does.

You can use a 3.6 steering box on a 3.8 and vice versa .

I have a good used box if you need one .

Have you checked PAS pump, fluid level, condition of filter in bottom of PAS reserviour and all the steering linkages, pittmann arm etc.

The box itself might be ok......

£275 delivered ......... you can email me on classicmdautos@gmx.co.uk if you prefer .

At the same time , SUB8 is right to suggest that some of the connectors or links may be responsible for your issues and a replacement box may not be necessary .

Yes.

PAS pump supports steering and SLS, when reservoir level is low steering will be affected. Looks like there are a number of issues to sort before - or with - your steering box.
