Garmin GPS in an E34

I just bought a Garmin Nuvi 3770 GPS for use in the M5.

Has anyone got any good ideas for mounting a GPS in an M5 other than the rubber suction cup or drilling holes in visible areas of the dash ?

I've seen pictures of a false panel made up in front of the gear lever. Benefits from the 12v hook up from the astray above.

The picture I recall looked really good with a screen there. If it's not too low down for you, I'd go there for an OE look.

I think that location is way too low for a Sat Nav. It may look good but unless you can rely on the sound alone I think it's a dangerous place to put it.

I've seen them mounted on the centre vents above the OBC/radio - usually using a Brodit/RAM-Mount or such.

The other place I had my TomTom mounted for a while was behind the steering wheel - which only blocked out a 1/4 of the rev counter/speedometer.

I was thinking of piggy backing a mount off the back of the rear view mirror putting it in a position directly below the mirror , make a mount that clamps around the stem of the rear view mirror mount.

I've tried just about every position at shoulder and eye level in the dash area and didn't like it.

The other possibility is off the centre vent on top of the dash

Under the ashtray looks good and I had the GPS sitting there yesterday and mainly following the voice commands with the occasional glance down at the screen

You could just lean how to read a map, I doubt I have been very helpful. Sorry.

Bondy , there are basically no accurate maps for Jakarta , it's terrible , I call it 'pinball navigation' to do it the old way , get in the basic area you want to go then pull over a dozen times to ask directions, the GPS people have put a lot of effort into trying to get the software right

Ahh.. I understand your problem better.

I have traveled a lot in SE Asia and it is a bad idea to ask anyone directions as they always say 'yes' or it turns into a village debate and it is even worse to let your eyes wander off the road for too long as things change quickly.

I would put the Sat Nav between the steering wheel and the door/window pillar (not sure LH/RHD you have) I wont go to the trouble of a picture.

I use the windscreen suction mount with my garmin.

I find it a useful co-driver on country roads, zoom out a little and see the bends ahead well before they come along ;-)
