E34 Bent handbrake

Couldn't see a specific thread on this, DavidOli says it's not uncommon so quick write up.

Symptom: Rachet appeared not to be engaging all the time.
Cause: Handbrake bent due to weak spot that had cracked (see pic)
Real cause: I was having to be heavy handed with the brake as one wheel was engaging first. Have now set up the new one evenly and it feels great - 2 clicks and it's fully on.

Whilst I had the trim cover off for the handbrake change I thought I'd clean it up and respray the leather over. Then on putting it back the rest of the trim looked cr*p so I took that out too... my dining room looked liked the inside of an E34 for a couple of days.
