Head torque question S38B36

I have done hours and hours worth of reading trying to find information on this motor. And I had a friend at a dealer print out some information. I keep getting two different specs for head torque, I get the Head torque angles, and just a set 3 set torque value. When people have installed heads what does everybody else do?
Thanks

Cheers

Phase :

1 = 15lbft

2 = 36lbft

3 = 58lbft

4 = 72lbft

5 = -90 * + 72lbft

TURN THE ENGINE UNTIL THERMOSTAT IS COMPLETELY OPEN
LET ENGINE COOL DOWN FOR 4 HOURS (WITH OPEN BONNET)
OPEN THE FILLER CAP OF THE COOLING WATER CIRCUIT EXPANSION TANK

Then repeat phase 5 .

Ok so on Phase 5 you turn the bolts loose 90* then retorque to 72 ftlbs. ok
And after warm up when you have to repeat phase 5, can you get to the head bolts with the upper timing cover, the "upper head" portion in place, or do you have to remove that to get to them?
Thanks for the information.

Cheers

David, your torque sequence seems more relevant to M30 engine than S38... where did you get that sequence from?

E34 M5 3.6 Cylinder Head Tightening Torques

BMW TIS Documentation set the B36
1. 20Nm
2. 60 degrees
3. 70 degrees

No re-torque after heat up. IT would mean to disassemble the top of the head to re-torque it which is doubtfull in my opinion.

I've been using this for torque settings. Aligns with Tomba's comments.

My mistake .

Typed this from my home laptop which doesn't have my TIS on it , so took the info from one of my gasket suppliers websites as I happened to be on there at the time .

Been a while since we've had to do a head gasket , thankfully !

Thanks for correcting my mistake boys and apologies to OP for any confusion caused !
