I asked this in another thread but it was lost in the banter. Do any of you have a three spoke airbag wheel on your M5? If so, what is your build date? If it is available for a car with a 3/90 or earlier build date, do any of you know the part #?
Thanks.

It is a three spoke wheel and has a proper badge rather than fabric or printed BMW logo. As for use in an earlier car (as a working airbag) I am afraid there are two electronic boxes with warning signs plastered all over them (under the rear seat) and a fist full of wires which would have to be sourced and installed. As for the part number for just the wheel try mailing dewitt
The wood came as original from the factory as an option on the M5 limited edition. Mine by the way is number 2 of the last 50. As for the steering wheel, I understand there were two versions, one with an airbag and one without. Even though they look identical the true airbag version has SRS written at the bottom of the wheel and a large sensor located in the middle under the rear seat. Learn't this when some dealer tryed to pass off an early 1992 with the above airbag wheel retrofitted but no sensor.
My '91 M5 has a three spoke wheel that is similar to yours but it doesn't have an airbag. You can see the picture here: http://www.simnet.is/kull/M5-inside.jpg
I'm presently in the process of mapping out a new business and on-going PhD stuff so time is not on my side. I have always intended on taking a load of pictures and writing about the history of the car. If the sun is out this weekend I will post some.
