Failing fuel pressure regulator causing starter to fail prematurely?

Last weekend I replaced my starter as it was making a loud screeching sound for 5 seconds after the car started and the car was starting slow. Although now the car starts much better, everytime I start it up in the morning it seems to start slow. If I start it up again after the first start, it starts much quicker. Can a failing fuel pressure regulator cause the starter to work much harder and fail prematurely?

Thanks
Paul
