squeaking sound from driverside front wheel

Hello Gentlemen,

I'm about to go on an 800 km trip in my M5 with 250,000 km on the odometer.

I took it in for a safety check yesterday and the mechanic said my car is safe for a long distance trip.

Prior to, there was a squeaking sound coming from my left front wheel and I asked him to check. He said "he thinks" it's probably the wheel bearing, but is nothing serious and shouldn't affect anything.

I'm not sure what are the symptoms of wheel bearing failure on these cars, but when i do make a sharp left turn, I get a quiet "whom whom whom" sound.

Side note*** This car had 19" inch before I reverted back to the original throwing stars. There wasn't any sounds with the 19"s, so it opens up the idea of the sound coming from the rim itself.

What you're experiencing sounds opposite of what you did.

Usually the noise and problems diminish when you go back to stock size wheels.

Wheel bearing is only gonna get loader and loader until it sounds like you’re rolling on a grinder

So is squeaking generally a symptom of failing wheel bearings?

It's usually more of a grunt or creaking at slow speeds, and a howl at high speeds

so the investigation continues....

I'm gonna rotate my tires and see if it is coming from the rim, and if it's still in the same location - I'll proceed from there.

Take look at the dust shields, when they get bent up and touch the brake rotor, you'll get a squeak.

I got a "squeek, squeek, squeek" from my wheels particularly when near a wall at slowish (30 mph) speed which I traced to loose centre caps on the wheels. Never noticed it related to steering inputs.

Funnily enough , I recently noticed a squeak eminating from my nearside front wheel area .

I did all of the usual tests , checked for play in the wheel bearing etc before actually removing the wheel .

Lo and behold , there was a mouse nesting in the inner arch !

That's the sort of thing that happens when you live in the countryside !

Good luck resolving your squeak and beware of the mice !
