I guess I'm the latest new guy so Hi everyone. Looking forward to spending a lot of time here - hopefully by choice not by necessity!
Bought a 1991 E34 M5 (production 10/1990) with S38 engine. It sat up for almost a year due to a deer hit. Replaced fender, hood and radiator. Engine fired right up when battery charged but idle was rough. Checked all spark plug wires, replaced spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, pulled injectors and had them cleaned. No reaction with engine running when I pulled wire from #5 cylinder so I check compression on all cylinders. All cylinders read 175 to 185 PSI except #5 which reads zero compression. No needle movement at all on gage however fuel/air mixture will blow out of hole when spark plug removed. No apparent blow by as none is noticed when dipstick pulled while engine running. I'm suspecting stuck valve or burnt valve not allowing cylinder to seal during compression cycle. I checked valve settings on all cylinders. Most were .012" with a couple at .011" or .013". Cylinder #5 was .012" for exhaust and intake. My obvious next step is to remove the head for valve inspection. This is where the problem is. I can't seem to find any procedures specifically for the S38 engine. I could have sworn I found a procedure with pictures somewhere but can't find it now. I'm just looking for any and all info I can get on removing/installing the head on this engine. If a manual were available that would be great. The online manual I found directs you to a "Construction Manual" for head work which I can't find.
I've been on forums before so I know to always search before asking. I didn't seem to come up with anything related. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in Advance.
