UK Board Members' trip to the 'Ring - September 2009

Evening All,

I've not been on the board for some time now and having had a look at some of the recent threads regarding the board 'dying' and a lack of input from some of us older / senior members, thought it apt to put a pictoral update of our recent trip to the 'ring in September 2009 last month.

For the benefit of all members - on this trip were :-
  • Steve & Dave in 'Sebring Sienna' a Sebring Silver track-prepared E34 M5 3.6
  • Myself and Jon B in 'Project Calypso' - a Calypso Red track-prepared E34 M5 3.6
  • John B Senior - in his track-prepared E34 M5 3.8 5 Speed - very nice indeed in Avus Blue
  • Jaysen D in his recently-acquired 911 997 Carrera 2s
  • Barry in his 535d
It was Jaysen and Barry's 1st trip to the 'ring - and in particular Jaysen's 1st excursion onto the track in his new 911 pride and joy - so hats-off to them both.

Here you go then :-

1). Jaysen & his C2s

2). Project Calypso after another 'Hot Lap' - Jon B achieved a storming 8 mins 45secs according to the Racelogic box we now have fitted - Bridge to Gantry - outstanding driving, Jon !

...it was probably helped by not having my considerable mass in the car - after the passenger 4-point harness was condemned by the marshalls at the entrance to the circuit - our home-made mounting points clearly not impressing them at all .......

3). John Senior in action in his Avus Blue - quite possibly the tidiest of the three track-prepared cars by some margin - and performing now better-than-ever......

4). Sebring Sienna in action - Dave & Steve have got the car very well set-up indeed - they certainly took no prisioners on this trip during their laps, according to Steve !

5). More of Project Calypso on the track - the weather for the weekend was very kind to us indeed.......:-

6). Barry on the track in his Irish-Registered 535d - a torque-monster....... :-

7). More of John Senior's Avus Blue :-

All in all we had a fantastic trip - all of the cars performed faultlessly (apart from our overheating front tyres on Project Calypso - replaced for some locally-sourced Toyo R888s).

I think I speak for all when I say we're looking forward to next year already......

Nice post Tel,

This was my favourite trip so far (I think this was trip number 10 or 11) for on track driving.

The hot weather and relatively quiet mid-week track made the ring an awesome place to spend 2 days.

As usual, the cars were faultless and in my mind are definately not capable of going that much quicker..

Also enjoyed the passenger laps this time out and its enjoyable seeing how people take different lines to different effect, yet we all seem to rattle around at about the same overall pace..

Roll on the next trip and a few bike track days next year too me thinks...

Steve

Thanks Terry - great post that triggered some great memories.

This was an awesome trip, as Steve commented we had the best track time ever with very few accidents and great weather. All cars perrformed faultlessly considering the abuse they took.

Special round of applause to Barry and Jaysen for popping their 'ring virginity' and being thoroughly good company.

Must also mention the guest appearance of Evoman and his brother in a track prepped Suzuki Swift!!

Great times with great friends that I may not have met weren't it for the board - enough said!!

Thanks for a great post as usual Terry,
I echo all of our gangs' comments, see you all soon I hope and roll on next year at the ring preferably with a weaker euro and free non- smelly ring toilets.
