Great Jacking tool (no affiliation)

I recently had a custom made jacking tool made by Fred (see website link below).

I needed a tool for the stock jacking point on the car to allow me to lift it up quickly and safely to put the jack stands under the subframe rails prior to working underneath. My jack was not low enough to allow me to get it under the front engine mount, and I found this way was easier and allowed me to simply jack the car once. The quality of the workmanship is excellent and so far it has worked very well. It fits snug enough that it allowed me to insert the tool into the jacking point and it holds there until I can raise the jack to line up the disk on the jack pad.

Here are some pics on it in action on my car.

Cheers

excellent! I've been wanting something like that. I don't see it listed on their web site, but i'd imagine they have the details to make a run of those.

You may want to post this on bimmerforums e34 section too, maybe a big enough market for a group buy!

Ya its not listed on his website, but since he now made my tool, he should be able to simply copy that for anyone else. I'll post it on the other forum as well.

Can you show us some pics of it away from the car? i.e. how it locks into the jacking point.

It would be great to have 4 of these to take with you to tyre shops etc for hoisting the car up without lifting it by the floor-pan seams as most places (quite incorrectly and destructively) do!

I went to a local tyre centre to fix a puncture and he put this empty bag under the car, flicked a switch and it inflated in seconds lifting the car to remove the wheel so who needs a jack when you can use one of these compressed air bags

The tool stays in place because it fits nice and snug. A few mm off, and it likely won't do it. It would still be easy to jack up I think even if it didn't stay in place.

Hmm. I've used the same wood block for the last 6 years. Cost me...nothing.

i'd personally like something a little more secure that actually goes into the jack point, rather than just under the sill.

I emailed the guy who makes these, says the e34 part isn't quite what he wants it to be, and was meeting with his machinist and was supposed to get back to me.

Back in the day, there was a guy who tracked his e34 m5, when i was tracking my old 525iT, he had a this little thing milled that fit into his floor jack and then locked into the factory jack point, very simple really, and should not cost much at all. Much safer than wood, both for the car and the person under it. But yeah, that's what i use now too.

ya I've been emailing the guy to provide fedback. He wants to simplify it somewhat so it is easier to produce. Consider mine a proto type, working.

I also tried the wood block.....until I heard that aweful creaking sound.....these cars weigh alot!
