Pistonheads

There are currently two really good prospects on PH at present - an Orinoco Green for 10k and a 95 six speed in Avus blue with 70k miles at 6995 - the latter car I know and is a private sale from the owner who has had the car for quite a few years - its nice and original, the wheels could do with a refurb but otherwise a bargain the sort of car we will kick ourselves by missing...

The '95 one seems a bargain with that sort of mileage, and I'd prefer that over the LE personally.

Although I've promised myself to only get another M5 if I win big on the lottery, and even then it'll be a weekend car.

Both of them could help their sale prospects if they brought them along to Gaydon.

Oh dear ...... captivated by the low mileage prospect .....so cliche !

The 148,000 mile 1995 Avus is the best of the lot :

1995 E34 M5 3.8, Including M5 Private Plate (1995)

148,000 miles£4,500

After 2 1/2 years ownership I am selling my M5. It is Avus blue with M Sport Black cloth/alcantara trim. Being the last year of manufacture it comes with 18" parallel alloys, 6 speed box and floating calipers. Mileage is 148K and it has a full service history (mixture of BMW and specialist) and a thick history file + old MOT's. I have just MOT'd it to 28.07.10.

The M5 plate will be included in the sale along with the Alpine/Diamond ICE that was professionally fitted when I bought the car.

It drives extremely well as a properly sorted E34 M5 should (this is my second one). The engine is quiet, smooth and turbine like and the 6 speed box is smooth and light (unlike some).

Major items replaced are as follows:-

- Clutch at 93K miles
- Both EDC front dampers at 110K miles
- Catalysts at 115K miles
- Both rear EDC dampers, rear springs, self levelling spheres and pipework at 137K miles.
- In the past 12 months/5K miles the front springs and lower suspension arms have been replaced along with front and rear disc pads and 2 x new rear tyres (Goodyear Eagle F1 all round).

More pictures/info available on request.

How much (or should I say "how little")

At these prices you could strip one for spares and then use it on the track, whilst keeping the other in tip-top shape!

Nothing wrong with buying a low mileage good car Dave.

It seems more like the old boys caught up in the mileage trap, oh it doesn't have enough on it to be good

The seller is a board member, judging by his other cars I'd say he has enough cash to keep it maintained:

1995 3.8-litre 6-Speed 340bhp saloon, 69k miles, M5 plate [UK]

If I was looking again I'd snap this up TBH

Kieran , I couldn't agree more .......

Nothing wrong with buying a higher mileage car with recent high end maintenance for £2500 less either .......

Both look like good buys ........you must be glad you sold when you did ?!

Second M5's

Both cars look tremedous value! Condition and maintenance are key, at this age I think you can pay lip-service to the mileage.

Just got to keep telling myself it would be pure madness to buy a second M5......

Speaking of tempting, did anyone else see (or buy) this beauty that was for sale recently?:

spot on x 2

but they are soooo tempting at these prices....

anyway, can't help looking at them.

What I really want is this...

all type cars : BMW 850 CSI M POWERD V12 5.6 6 SPEED

but I'm pretty sure it's out of my "permitted" toy budget

but then I'd have two track day cars, and the wife certainly wouldn't let me get away with that, the ribbing would last for decades...

Iday

I drove one of these beasties around Brands Hatch when new - not nice on the track too heavy and squealed like a tortured pig!
