Likely Caust of Anti Lock Warning Light?

First, let me say I tried the search function but couldn't locate specific details. My anti-lock light came on this morning, what is the likely cause given age of the car? Just my luck, it comes on right after I spent over $2,000 on cooling related parts.

Thanks. Kevin

i believe a dealer or shop with a gt1 can pull a fault code that will point you in the right direction. I'd first do a visual check of the abs pulse generators, the front's i know mount into the hub, behind the front brake disc.
I recently did my struts, and had to remove and reinstall these and they can get quite dirty, perhaps a clean and wiring check would solve the problem. They're magnetic so you'll find all sorts of little fragments stuck to them.

I think the gt1 can tell you which one is causing the problem, if that is the source.

I'd imagine the rears are installed in a similar fashion, but i've not had my hands on them.

Mine has the same problem. The diagnosis first was sensors, i changed them and the light was still on. Then, went through the diagnosis again and one of the valves on the ABS pump is shot.... do your light comes on after a while you start the car? Do you feel the brake pedal vibrating a little and then it stops vibrating and the light comes on? This is whatŽs happening to mine. the AB pump is part # 34511157874....i found one second hand and will try it on....

I changed the sensors along with discs and pad's less than 15,000 miles ago. I suppose one of them could have failed. I have plenty of disc/pad available. I don't track car...drive it sparingly (under 20 miles day)...though most is city driving. In any case, I do have a fault code reader that I use to reset the oil light indicators when I change oil/filter. I can't recall if it reads other faults.

This is the first time it's come on...and it stayed on all the way to work. I noticed no change in brake pedal pressure, vibration, etc. Maybe I'll be lucky enough and it will be sensor and not the ABS pump.

Thanks, guys. Kevin

Did you change the abs pulse generator sensors or the pad wear sensors? A GT1 isn't necessarily needed and is very expensive. Peake Research has an abs specific tool that's only a bit over $100. Well worth it as a shop with a GT1 will likely charge you nearly the same for one diagnosis. If you feel no change in the pedal feel it's likely a sensor issue (faulty/dirty sensor, dirty exciter ring, bad wire or connector). As suggested before, do a visual inspection of the wire leads and connectors, then remove and clean them. If that fails, pick up the Peake tool and scan for ABS related codes.

I changed the pad wear sensors when I replaced rotors/pads. The light hasn't come back on and I never did notice a change in the pedal feel, so it would seem the ABS sensors are the likely culprit. Are they difficult to replace?? Thanks. Kevin

no one 5mm bolt, iirc and it comes out. It's on the back side of the hub.

If it turns out to be the ABS pump, dont go to the stealers. I have a good spare one.

Had an issue which turned out to be a Master Cylinder problem. Ugh....

Best
