is this the right pollen filter?

Hi

About to replace the pollen filter in my RHD E34 1991 e34 M5.

thought I'd research it on the boards first, came across lot's of posts saying it's a PITA job and that the filter for RHD models is in two pieces...

so, I presume these filter I was supplied is the wrong one... picture attached...

does anybody know the correct part number?

I looked at the euro car parts site - but it also shows a 1 piece filter for my car...

Looks the wrong shape to me. The pollen filter should slide into a z shape for easy fitting and has a white plastic surround and a white paper filter. The job is not simple so enjoy.

Give the boys at Motormec a call. They can help and offer great prices and a wonderful service.

Have you checked that you actually have a microfilter to replace, as I know some of the early cars didn't have one.

not yet, but as I have climate control with a/c then I'm pretty sure I have. Farrell suspected it was blocked when he inspected the car, and judging by the shameful state of the air filter that I recently replaced, it wouldn't surprise me to find that it's 10+ years old...

I suspect you will find that it's 20 years old. I replaced mine yesterday and it had never been touched... After replacing it - I can understand why nobody had ever bothered...

yeah...have fun. when I replaced mine a few months back it was the original one coming out of the car. yummy. be careful not to damage your heater core while installing the new one...that would be even less fun and the cleanup would be terrible.

what a lovely job that was

repalced the pollen filter, much more air coming into the car now, given the amount of debris in the air chamber I'm surprised it was working at all.

Definatley wasn't the original filter, I could tell by loose screws that somebody has been in there before.

Air Conditioning stil not working so it must need re-gassing (is this a specialist job on the E34 M5?)

here are some pictures

My favorite is the dustpan and brush shot - I do wonder exactly how a latex glove came to be behind the pollen filter... I was expecting bits of gravel and the odd feather...

oh, and PITA doesn't cover it, I started this job at 5pm and finished at 22.30pm - my wife was not amused :-(

Had my AC system re-gassed yesterday, so nice to be driving round in a cool car again (I'm a typical Englishman, I melt in anything higher than 26 degrees). System has no leaks and pressure tests where spot on.

West London owners - I used AB Air Conditioning, just 1 man (Adam) working from his double garage in Twickenham but he knows his stuff, he's been an a/c indy since re-training from being a mechanic 10 years ago. 07889140613.

He converted the system to R134 and re-gassed it for £100. (New valves, and R134 with an additive, pressure test etc.).

Just the front passenger door tweeter to replace now :-)

Great job, I wondered if you had any good tips for anyone thinking of doing this job themselves. That is apart from forget it!

Time, daylight, more hands than an octopus and nimble fingers. Also being a member of Cirque du Soleil would help so that you could climb into the footwell and do the job on your head....I kid you not!
