I used a 2 pack mouldable putty adhesive. And rolled it out into a bead and placed along edges. It gripped a lot better and quicker than silicone.
That's a great method. Well done. I like your glue choice too. The black line you repaint hides most of the imperfections, and the sander on the new lens shapes it to fit. If you dip your amber bulb in hi-heat silver paint, no amber will be in the lens at all until you turn on the blinker.
