Small question:
My throttle cable is about to give in (break). is it easy to replace the cable?
Do I need to remove the master brake cylinder or anything? Seems awfully narrow where the cable is going!
Just did this a couple weeks ago. Unbolt and lift up the water valves as stated above, and have alot of patience. You will scrap your hand and it will take a while. Just be patient and it ll clip in.

i did mine while replacing the vacuum and water hoses under the plenum, so i had the plenum off (not a difficult job in itself) so there was plenty of space.

I did our andys earlier this year, cost 20 quid from BMW, was a piece of cake, the most difficult part was getting the old cable out, there is a square hole behind the accelerator pedal where the new cable clips in and getting the square plastic clip out is a pain, just clip it out with a flat bladed screw driver
The aforementioned water hoses valves are in the way too for threading the cable round the back of the dashboard but even if youve got big hands (like me) you can still reach down to guide it through the hole round the bottom of the dash.
Took around 30 minutes in the freezing cold january weather we had
best regards
James

How man miles should I expect from a throttle cable? Are they a common problem? do you think they broke due to wear or adjustment too tight? Just wondering when to add it to the maintenance list.

i did my 3/90 production car at 150k miles, with coolant hoses, belts, vacuum lines etc. Was obviously frayed/worn.
