E34 M5 @ 250 + km/h

Compared to a E46 M3, or to a E36 M3, or to other cars you have driven over 200 km/h, such as @ 250 km/h, how does the E34 M5 (in good condition, with new tires and new suspension) handle, act?

I was not able to push mine over 200 km/h.

How is E34 M5 at high autobahn speeds? Is it stable? Does it make you nervous?

All I know is that the chasis/drivetrain are old technology and the aerodynamics is far from ideal.

Regards.

compared with other cars that I've driven at speed (140+mph) the E34 M5 feels pretty neutral and composed. I find that at speeds over 160 the car feels not only strained, but also a bit light in the front end. I recently drove the M5 back to back at speed with a porsche 993 C4s and a C5 Z06, and the porsche felt a bit more nervous than the M5 up to about 140mph, but then the nervousness became smooth and calm, where at similar speeds the tranquility of the M5 became a bit tense as the front end got floaty. The vette felt more active and less settled at all speeds that I encountered. I'd say that the ideal cruising speed of the M5 seems to be about 130-140mph, afterwards the car feels just a bit out of sorts. Hopefully new suspension will help out with this.

Um, a Alpina B10 Biturbo is a E34. At 168mph GPS indicated my M5 felt pretty stable but the front does tend to get slightly lighter but between 100-140mph the car is extremely planted.

168 mph that is unbeliveble ~~~ 270 kmh

((300 km on my BT is 277 GPS ))

I have recently sold my 91 E34 M5,, and i once pulled the car to 250,,

at that speed ,,,,,,, everything under control

ps,, your car must be a 3.8

Hi Mert , is the war over ?

I saw an indicated 168 mph on my 3.8 recently ( I've forgotten which private road it was on ) and it felt great !

Maybe you are getting old or maybe your suspension components are ?!

Glad to have you back ........

I've had the 3.6 to an indicated 165 still climbing and it felt like a tea party compared to riding in some of my friend's American powered behemoths at similar speeds. Lets just say it was a bit uneasy!

I had my car up to 160 mph for the first time a few wks ago. Solid in my opinion.

I do have 245/275 18's for tires and forged LW wheels as well as all new Dinan/Eibach / Bilstein suspension which I'm sure attributed to the smoothness. The car is so planted after 140.

This is the last time I'm going to take my car that fast. Probably shouldn't have done it, but I had Touloulene in the tank and the car is just spot on....I said to myself, If not now when ?
