EDC Not Active Question - The Unofficial BMW M5 Messageboard (m5board.com)

The light for the S/P switch stopped working and then I started getting the EDC not active warning. This has happened a couple of times now. When I take it to the shop they use a scanner to clear the fault. Then it operates fine for a month or so. The fault I'm getting is "front acceleration sensor". Where is it and is it easy to change?

It's so nice when it's working.

I'd check the wiring to the sensor before replacing it - wiring looms are a reliability suspect now, especially underbonnet where the heat hardens it even more than age and vibration already have elsewhere in the car.

Agreed. Check the loom first

front right wheel arch. I still haven't taken mine off and have the same issue. When you get yours off, please read out the pn will you? It may need to be replaced with the sensor used in the back. It's a $300 part and you want to get the right one. If you have your camera handy when you do this it would be great help. I am avoiding my car like teenager with a term paper. I am so lame.

Thanks for the info. My EDC has been working fine since resetting it so I haven't changes the sensor.

I can't find the pn in real oem, so I don't even know if this is the correct piece. Did you get the dealer to reset your codes?

... well I called the dealer and they told me the new pn was
37141179832

but they never said anything about an upgraded part, just the upgraded number..

$297.38 1-2 weeks delivery. How can I test my sensor? I am going to clean it up real good and put it back on. The dealer wanted $116 to clear the fault codes...what a jip

My son works for a BMW-Porsche-Audi shop. I'll usually stop by at around noon and buy him lunch in exchange for resetting my codes. It might be a good idea to develop a friendship with a local indie that has a scanner.
