Exclamation The E34 M5 Touring Registry!

What is the E34 M5 Touring Registry?

The E34 M5 Touring Registry is an effort to compile a database of all 891 of the E34 M5 Tourings that were built. The effort is headed by the M5 Touring Registry creator and owner: Karl H. Marks. Here is a synopsis of the M5 Touring:

BMW E34 M5 Touring:
Total production: 891 cars
Hand-built by M GmbH at the Garching facilities between 03/1992 and 07/1995
VIN-range: HJ 91 BL 01000 - 01944
How many are still out there?
And where are they?
Do you own one of these rare cars?
You know somebody who does?
= tell us about it !

If you are an owner of an M5 Touring or know of an M5 Touring,
Mail this e-mail: m5toureg@telia.com to e-mail Karl and share your M5 Touring information.

Thanks,
Karl H. Marks, Ken Little, and Paul DeWitt

Um,

How come there are 944 Vin numbers in that sequence yet only 891 sold ?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I can`t think of a valid reason.

Ivan.

Sometimes VIN # were assigned to cars that were never built. This happens all the time. It even happened to the E34 M5 sedan.

Well, all I can say is that you lucky guys offically had E34 M5 Tourings imported to the UK, so you had better get one!

If I'm to get one, I have to go to Germany, look at the Touring, take it to a dealership for service and repairs, take it to a shipper, get it shipped, take it to an importer, get it Federalized, get it EPA'ed, get it DOT'ed, and maybe if it passes the test, drive it home and into my garage. Base price of Touring (25,000USD) plus Federalizing( 10,000USD)=DAMN!

Hello deWitt,

I hope this doesn't sound too picky - as I understand it, the M5 Touring was never officially imported into the UK by BMW (UK) Ltd. A number of them have been brought into the country as 'personal imports' and the regulations governing this are not as stringent. Because the car was type approved in the European Union of which the UK is a member, the conversion to UK spec. only involves headlamp dip beam direction (to the left not right), proper marks on the speedo to show UK speeds in MPH (it's not neccessary to change the KM speedo, just sthck-on labels will do). All the other stuff with catalytic converter and emmission control is already OK for the UK.
The car was only ever built as a LHD but there is one car that was converted for a UK customer by Munich Legends.
BTW, my car's build sheet shows 11th August 1995 as the date - it''s VIN is BL01920 - must be one of the last.

Regards,

Mike
