Have just agreed to buy a diamond black metallic M5 Touring 1992 model. Will be picking her up this Saturday.
I'll get the VIN to you once I've collected her.
It's only done 108,000 miles. Will keep my e39 M5 & use the e34 M5 Touring as the sensible/practical family car!!
I'm really looking forward to getting back into an e34 M5. For me an e34 is a more raw, exciting & involved driving experience than the more refined but still outstanding e39.
Regards Chris

Hi Chris,
thanks for telling me and congratualtions to your choice. Now looking forward to the VIN and I just might have a pre-history for you if the car is already in the registry which is likely.

And in a few weeks time I expect your message that you have declared the more practicle E39 M5 to be the 'family car' and the rougher (warming up and cooling down requirements) to be the enthusiast car for special occasions instead

Sounds nice. Be sure to check the EDC suspension. My 2 rear dampers are leaking (£500 each ) and I just spent £2300 at Munich legends on bits of rust and other things to get it mint. I am doing the rear dampers and front discs soon after which it should be superb
I managed to cruise all the way to Denmark at 100-120mhp (only in Germany of course)......what a superb car.

Hi Miksta
The new dampers will restore your car to its former glory. The car I am buying has also been serviced by Munich Legends, which is reassuring. Munich Legends are a bit more local for me; about a 10 minute spirited M5 drive

Miksta@
are your SURE your EDC-rear-dampers or shot ? are they really LEAKING ??
because as long as they SWEAT they will be fine because that is a specific
issue for the EDC-dampers, i.e. you lift the car up with the wheels hanging down and then put it on the wheels again after a while, there will be some excess oil 'sweatening' which is NOT a sign of failure but NORMAL. If you had the car lifted up many times during maintenance work then of course you will have some extra 'sweatening' but you shud be fine anyhow.

There is a BMW-service-bulletin on this subject on the BMW TIS-CD.
-
I suggest to do a damper test first before you take hasty decisions unless of course you really wish to have a new set.

No I am not 100% sure, this is what ML told me. And they said leaking, not sweating but thanks for your note - I will ask them! How does a damper test work on EDC?
The rear suspension does feel soft in comparison to the front which was done shortly before I got it - I noticed this the first time I drove it. I dont want it to fail MOT because of it, as I need to put Danish plates on it.
Btw just sourced a mint boot door at a breakers from a blue M5 Touring (mine is rotten to the bone - so easy fix). Btw it had VIN BL01718 for your collection.
Cheers
