Karl, how is your Japanese? Could be a challenge to get the VIN if you haven't already found this car.
Good luck
-
Hi David,
my Japanese is not good and my challengence to obtain VINs for
Japanese cars has so far ended with a -zero- result.
I know of possibly 3 M5tourings in Japan and most likely there are more.
Thanks for ur advise but -Japan- remains a white sheet on the M5touring
world-map.

Tuomas@
congrates to ownership of an exclusive and rare car.
I talked to the previous owner about the car and I hope he was as open about the short comings of this particular car to you as he was to me.
Did he give you the build-sheet for the car with the option-list ??? Otherwise you can get one from me !
Another M5touring to Finland makes the count 10+ ??
-
EPDN@
you are absolutely right about the pay-options for Belgium-Export-Cars.
As far as the Belgium-version-code is concered this cud be a small item to
correspond with regulations in Belgium, like head-light-glass or som other
minor issues, f.ex. there were only three (3) M5tourings built as -Scandinavia-version-cars.
-
Stevie Sam@
just for the record, the work that Alex P. is doing with the mregistry has my respect and support and I also do communicate with him on a regular basis
BUT still I have NO connections with the -mregistry- and whereas the -mregistry- has about 33x M5tourings registered the GLOBAL M5TOURING REGISTRY holds meanwhile details of 375+ identified M5tourings worldwide -

Miksta@
mail received, thks.
That's is the 'ex-Steven-Sabine/Andrew Powling' car and another M5touring
leaving the island. From the UK to Denmark without a problem with customs
and the tax-office ?? I wish you luck !!! Other M5t have left the UK to new
german ownership and dispite the higher price-level in the UK but UK-cars
are also normally better maintained.

Welcome to the crowd, Miksta

Hi Karl I have a theory on this and that is because the cars are LHD and are purchased by people who really want one they are treated as special and not neglected as some have been elsewhere. Thus more maintenance is completed on these cars.

good theory. My german import ist the biggest POS imaginable. Just about everything has needed to be replaced. Engine, gearbox, electrical systems. My first and last BMW. Even a lada is more reliable.

Simonal@
I fully agree. 'Maintenance' is the -key-word- for any motorsport-related
product and so it is for the E34 M5/M5touring.
EPDM@
sorry to hear about your misfortune, however, the car can not help it to have been mistreated by previous owners. The E34 M5 was once classified as 'the best saloon-sport-car' in the world and for good reasons. This 'hand-built' car is also generally accepted as a 'rock-steady-high-quality-build. A good advise has always been, do NOT buy a mistreated car for low money, a more expensive car is normally the better buy in the long run. Too bad your story seems to confirm this. Incorrect or inproper treatment 'kills' any machine and
especially a high-tec E34 M5 (this refers to the previous owners NOT you).

Karl

I fully agree "maintenance" is the key to running these highly sophisticated cars. This year alone I have had the head gasket leak as a result of blown radiator, A/C condenser and Fan and now today the fuel pump!

But I have to accept that this is the price of running a car that quite frankly cannot be matched for the bredth of skills and the entertainment that it can deploy at this and many other price points.

EPDM

really sorry to hear about your tail of woe regarding the car. Sometimes as Karl states when they are mistreated they do fail but I would say one thing to you.

The E34 M5 is without doubt a future classic in the making. They are fast enough to be dangerous, while being benign enough to have fun in. The handling is superb, and it is in my opinon one of the best compromises around and this is just in saloon form! As a Touring you can add the ability to collect wardrobes and familiy, not at the same time and tha bility as I have found on regular basis to supprise surrounding cars.

It sounds like your car has been through the "ringer" in terms of cost and parts fixes but If you have done all this then you sound like you could be at the other end of the tunnel and should be able to see the light.

At least one member on the board has spent tens of thousands on the his car and is about to undertake a rebuild BUT he would not be without the car as he loves it dearly.

I hope you do in the end get a nice example out of it and that you get to enjoy the car in the way I and many others do.

Simon
