Hi Dan

Was on the blower to faz when the car turned up I FEEL YOUR PAIN

Good luck with the engine mate and live safe in the knowledge she has a long term booked in with you.

More power to you mate for taking the plunge most, myself included, would have thrown in the towel.

I took the rebuild route 5 years ago and never regretted it one bit

Mind you i ran her in for over 2000miles with oil changes at 250 500 1000 and 2000 then was still ginger with her until i let her rip

Well done mate

That new engine looks soooo sexy Dan !

Will you be fitting a new clutch and flywheel ?

Are you going to replace the original chain tensioner ?

Did you ever find out what caused your original engine to fail ?

Thanks Steve, great pictures.
Throwing the towel in was just not on the cards. I've got the car really good now with just a couple of outstanding items to do for a complete restoration. I don't think there can be many RHD 3.6's that are as good as mine. In saying that its not concourse but that was never my intention. These cars are for driving, I dont want a garage queen.

I went up to see the new engine today - its a work of art. I cant wait to get out in the car and see what its like. I do of course have to run it in yet but I'm sure that wont be too much of a pain, its a nice car to just drift about in anyway.

Hi David,
The clutch was replaced about 10k miles ago along with new shifter bushes etc. The flywheel was in excellent condition at that point. If its worn it will be replaced but I'm expecting it to be fine.
It looks like the oil pump failed, we wont know for sure until we get the sump off the original engine.
As the engine comes with a two year warranty from BMW it will keep its original tensioner for the time being. Obviously I dont want to take any chances with what BMW would consider an unauthorised modification.

Hi Terry,

The pictures don't do it justice. I spent about two hours just staring at it.

Even with a substantial discount, once I'd paid the VAT I got very little change from Ł9000.

With gaskets, new coolant hoses, exhaust manifold studs, engine and gearbox mounts, fan blower motor etc, etc I'm still some way off fom the final bill.
