Removing the pipes and blanking them off will cause no errors.
The system is designed for injecting air into the exhaust manifold on cold start to reduce emissions. Most countries test emissions on a warm engine when the system would have stopped working anyway. If you remove the air pump I think you may get a 'check engine' light come on. The air pump pulley tensions the air-con belt so its best to leave it in place. If you want to remove it I think you can use a 535 belt - not totally sure about that though.

The engine is in
After a little frustration waiting for parts (first fan blower motor was faulty) Darren got the engine back in today. Just a few more jobs to do and I'm back on the road.

Thanks Erik but all I've done is stump up the cash. It will be something to have a new S38 under the bonnet.

Congratulations, can't wait to hear your views on the engine once it's fully run in!

What oil are you going to use?

Sorry guys but I really don't want this to turn into another dreaded oil thread. I think its been discussed to *****. I'm going to run the new engine on 15w50 as recommended in the owners manual.
