Bavaria C Professional RDS (radio)

Hello,

I am the new owner of touring BL01684. The car has the above-captioned radio. When the radio is turned on, CODE WAIT appears on the right screen. According to the manual (translated with babelfish), I only need wait 15 minutes and I can enter the code. Unfortunately, the radio "clicks" and turns itself off after about 15-20 seconds.

My search of the archives has been fruitless. If this has been discussed before and someone can point me to the thread, much appreciated. I someone has solved the same problem, your advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

First off, congrats on scoring a touring! Where abouts are you located?

I can't say for certain, but i know on my volvo, if the wrong code has been entered too many times, you have to wait at least 2 hours until it will let you try again. Maybe the translation was wrong and you actually have to wait 15 minutes, with the power hooked up.

Luxauto, thanks for the reply, I am also in Calgary.

I don't think the issue is the 15 minute wait, but rather that the radio switches itself off after 15-20 seconds, therefore never staying on for 15 minutes. I could be wrong, but I think the description meant the radio had to be on, not just battery power to the car.

you have to enter the code correctly within the short time otherwise it switches itself off.

do you have the correct code?

If you have the instruction manual it tells you how to enter the code. let me know if you haven't and I'll dig out my instruction manual.

Thanks for the reply. When CODE WAIT is displayed, you cannot input anything, or perhaps just I can't figure out how to input anything.

Turn the ignition to the second position (just short of starting the car, all the lights on the dashboard light up). Turn on the radio and wait slightly over 1hr (the CODE WAIT will disappear and CODE will remain). It shouldn't turn off then. If you leave the ignition on the first position the radio will turn off. I went through this as well, when I let the battery drain and I couldn't remember which of the three radio code cards I had belonged to which car.

this sounds spot on, it took 15 minutes with my car, as stated in the manual ( I remember now).

the switching off or locking is the security feature, and as mentioned, means you have the have the power on the whole time. Just makes it a *tiny* bit more of a pain in the butt for theives to try and crack the code. it would be great to see your car sometime!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'm heading out of town for a few days, but will try this Monday.

I will let you know if successful.

Okay, I lied and went out to see if it might be 15 minutes. Key turned to position 2, dash lights up, fan is running etc. Pushed the radio knob to turn on, it turned off in 10 seconds. Timed it 3 times. Re-read your post, you weren't suggesting that AFTER the hour with the key in position 2 I turn the radio on were you?

Hopefully we are narrowing this down.

Just leave the ignition on (have a trickle charger hooked up if your battery is weak!). If the manual is right, the radio should turn back on after 15 minutes and let you put in the code.
